How did you favorite college team fair in the NFL draft?

Now that the dust has settled after last week’s NFL draft, college fans across the state and south can begin bragging about how players from their favorite school faired.

Of the 12 teams in the Southeastern Conference, LSU and Georgia had the most players drafted with six each. Alabama came next with five, followed by Auburn and Florida, who had four players each drafted.

Mississippi State and Arkansas had three players each taken in the draft, and two Tennessee players were drafted. Kentucky, Ole Miss and South Carolina had one player each taken in the draft.

Of course, Alabama and Auburn fans will use the draft as a way to claim bragging rights for a while. While Alabama had more players taken in the draft, Auburn can claim the No. 1 pick since AU quarterback Cam Newton was picked first overall by the Carolina Panthers.

Alabama defensive tackle Marcel Dareus was selected third overall by the Buffalo Bills, and Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones was picked sixth overall by the Atlanta Falcons.

Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley was selected 13th overall by the Detroit Lions, and Alabama offensive tackle James Carpenter was picked 25th overall by the Seattle Seahawks.

Alabama running back Mark Ingram was picked 28th overall by the New Orleans Saints, and Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy was selected 208th overall by the New York Jets.

Auburn defensive tackle Zach Clayton was picked 212th overall by the Tennessee Titans, and Auburn offensive tackle Lee Ziemba was chosen 244th overall by Carolina.

The last player taken each year in the draft is unofficially known as “Mr. Irrelevant.” This year, it was Rice University defensive end Chetah Ozougwu, who was selected 254th overall by the Houston Texans.

The only Alabama player ever picked last in the draft was former Alabama cornerback Ramzee Robinson, who was picked last in 2007. No Auburn player has ever been picked dead last in the NFL draft.

The NBA playoffs are still ongoing. The conference quarterfinals wrapped up on Friday night, and conference semifinals began on Sunday.

Teams making it out of the quarterfinals include the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Bulls, the Miami Heat, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Atlanta Hawks, the L.A. Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks and the Memphis Grizzlies.

I was pulling for the New Orleans Hornets against the Lakers. Of course, the Hornets went down in flames, 4-2, to the defending two-time world champions.

The first full month of the major league baseball season wrapped up earlier this week, and a few teams have surprised us while a few others have fallen short of preseason expectations.

As of Monday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians had the best record in the major leagues. They were 19-8 overall and sitting atop the American League Central standings. Other teams close behind were the New York Yankees, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Florida Marlins and the Colorado Rockies.

As of Monday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves were 14-15 overall for a winning percentage of .483. They were third in the National League East standings, five games out of first place.
