“Opelika socks Aggies 41-14: The Evergreen Aggies traveled to Opelika last Friday night and came back with their third straight loss of the season. The Bulldogs upended the Aggies, 41-14, scoring 35 points in the first half. The Aggies, however, outplayed the Bulldogs in the second half, but because of a few bad breaks occurring in the first half, they were too far down to catch up.
“Leading the way for Evergreen on offense was Mark Bell. He carried the ball eight times and gained 75 yards and scored both Aggie touchdowns on runs of one and nine yards. Another Aggie player adding much to the offense was split end Wayne Harrelson, who had four pass receptions for 68 yards.
“On defense, Evergreen was led by Barry Padgett with seven solos and seven assists. Also Arturo Scott, who was all over the field, had 11 solos and three assists. Others were Kenny Rankins with eight and one, Deatrich Wise with two and five, DeWayne Booker with three and three, James Lee and Doug Booker with three and two each and Tracy Hawsey with four solos.”

“The Evergreen Aggies face one of their strongest opponents of the season when they return to gridiron warfare here Friday night with an eight o’clock match with Andalusia in Brooks Stadium. The Green and White punched out an 18-0 win over Millry here Sept. 14 to open the season. Last week, they had an open date giving Coach Wendell Hart two weeks to practice to ready his light and inexperienced squad for this important tilt with the Bulldogs.
“Probably starting lineups are as follow:
“Evergreen – LE Lurton Chambers, 150; LT Wayne Douglas, 161; LG Bill Robinson, 126; C Joe Stowers, 142; RG Donahue Edson (Capt.), 152; RT Sam Cope, 210; RE Shirley Frazier, 150; QB Gillis Morgan (Alt. Capt.), 145; LHB Gwyn Daniels, 137; RHB Ward Alexander Jr., 160; FB Pace Bozeman, 150.”

“Coach Mack English’s spirited but green Lyeffion squad battled an experienced and heavier 11 from Excel throughout the entire game Thursday night in Monroeville. The final score, Excel 20, Lyeffion 0.
“Outstanding for the Lyeffion Yellow Jackets was Frank Shavers, one of South Alabama’s niftiest 125-pound linebackers.
“Van and Ben Hawsey and David Eddins showed sparks of offensive ability and may be expected to improve with practice.”

“The Repton Bulldogs ran up against a big, experienced Brantley football team and a wet field last Friday night and dropped a 33-0 verdict in Brantley.
“Friday Coach Charles Pouncey’s team will journey to McKenzie for a game with the Tigers.

“The loss of left half Joe Kelly who was injured in the Brantley game slows the Repton offense. Expected to lead the scoring efforts are Will Ivey, Jimmy McInnis and Charles Carter. Shelton and Gerald Baggett, Max Hanks, Euby Gandy, Harry Giles and Harold Butts are line stalwarts counted on to stop McKenzie.”
