It’s the second Thursday of the month, so today I’m giving
you an update on UFO reports in Alabama from the past month, courtesy of the
Mutual UFO Network.
A search for UFO reports in Alabama between Aug. 1 and Aug.
31 on MUFON’s website, www.mufon.com, resulted in four reports from within our
state during that time.
The first incident occurred on Wed., Aug. 9, around midnight
in Leeds near Birmingham. The witness in this case was stargazing and saw what
he thought was a satellite at first. The witness told his brother to check it
out with his binoculars, and after a minute the brother saw something
“flashing.”
The witness then looked through the binoculars and “couldn’t
believe” what he was seeing – a triangular formation of “flashing and pulsating
white and blue” lights, hovering just above the horizon. The witness continued
to watch as the formation moved in a circle that covered a large part of the
sky. Then, it moved in a straight line, dropped and came back to where it was
first seen.
The witness’ daughter then asked where it was, and the man
pointed a green laser pointer at the object, which “vanished” at that point.
The witness noted that he stargazes often and had never seen anything like what
he saw on this night.
The second incident occurred on Thurs., Aug. 10, around 3
a.m. in Birmingham. The witness in this case was smoking on his apartment’s
patio and saw what he thought was a star that was “bigger and brighter than the
others” just above the tree line. The light then moved below the trees, but the
witness could still see part of it through the leaves.
The object appeared to flicker and displayed a variety of
colors as it hovered in the same spot for some time. The witness continued to
watch for a “very long time” as the object moved above the trees and then
higher into the night sky. Later, the witness watched as a “red,
teardrop-shaped craft” appeared from the right and was much closer to the
witness than the first object.
The second object appeared dark in the center and was
visible for only about five seconds. About five minutes later, the witness saw
a star-shaped “flash in the sky” like the flash of a camera. The witness
continued to watch the object on and off until 5:45 a.m. when it disappeared.
Later that same day, around 7:13 p.m., another UFO was
reported in Hartford, a city in Geneva County. The witness in this case was
sitting in his backyard, facing southwest, when he noticed a triangular-shaped
craft that seemed to be following a passenger jet. The man called his wife
outside, and they both watched the object, which looked white or “silver
metallic.”
They then called their son, who lives six houses down the
street, and he began watching the object as well. The son, using his cell
phone, then called his parents’ attention to two more triangular-shaped objects
in the sky, about four to five miles apart. The witness noted that none of
these objects made any noise, had no markings, left no contrails and had no
wings attached to them.
The fourth and final incident occurred on Tues., Aug. 25,
around 9:40 p.m. near Hanceville, a city in Cullman County. In this case, a
husband and wife couple were sitting on the porch and saw a “huge disc-like
object with five red lights on it.” This object hovered for just a moment
before it started moving across the sky.
The couple watched the object for four to five minutes until
they couldn’t see it any more. Within 20 minutes of the object’s disappearance,
they watched as seven jets flew in the same direction of the unusual object.
The wife noted that the UFO emitted no sound and seemed to be flying at a slow
speed.
Before closing out this week, I just want to put it out
there again that I would be very interested to hear from any readers of The
Courant who have witnessed a UFO in Conecuh County. I think a lot of other
people would be interested in hearing your story too, and I’d be willing to
accept your report on an anonymous basis if you’d be more comfortable with that
arrangement. You can contact me by e-mail at courantsports@earthlink.net or by
phone at 578-1492.
