These are some of the players on the Southern Coach Mfg. Co.
team in the Men’s Softball League back about 1948. C.L. Rogers was up for a
visit from Miami and took the picture. In front is Arthur Mason, who managed
the team, and seated behind him are Herman Bolden, Hal Standley, Percy Johnson,
Charlie Lee Barlow, Ed Raines and Hugh Mason. Best the editor remembers the
league functioned right well for several years and then a couple of broken legs
sorta “busted” it up.
Danny Williamson and Phillip Ellis had good luck up at
Camden last week bringing back an ice box full of catfish, including these
whoppers. The big one weighed 41 pounds and the “little” one 9-1/2 pounds.
