The Jackson Academy Eagles rushed and out-passed the Sparta Academy Warriors last Friday night. They were ahead of the Warriors in every category of the game, except for one. The Warriors outscored the Eagles, 13-9.
Sparta Academy’s two scores came from the defense as Steven Gall returned an intercepted pass 50 yards for a touchdown, and Mark Watts picked up an Eagle fumble and raced 65 yards for another score. Watts added the PAT on the fumble recovery/touchdown to give the Warriors their fourth win in as many times this season.
(Other standout Sparta players in that game included Kelvin Salter, Richard Weaver and Jason Williams.)

The Hillcrest Jaguars lost their first game of the 1991 season when they fell to the Andalusia Bulldogs by the score of 16-14.
Hillcrest got their first points on the board after a 69-yard drive with Cecil Gill capping it off with a four-yard run with 1:35 to go in the third stanza. Marcus Bruce tacked on the two-point conversion, and Hillcrest had cut the lead in the half, 16-8.
Hillcrest’s offense put together a determined 74-yard drive to try to tie the game. The drive ended with Bryant Richardson scoring from four yards out on second and goal with 2:56 to go in the game. On the two-point conversion… the pass was incomplete in the end zone and the score was 16-14.

Coach Shirley Frazier’s Lyeffion High Yellow Jackets brought their season record to exactly .500 with an upset win over the McKenzie High Tigers Friday night.
Hard running full back Harold Wilson paced the Jackets as he scored twice to lead the upending of a highly favored Tiger team. The game was played in McKenzie on a wet field with rain falling off and on throughout the game.

Rained out last Friday and Saturday, defeated by Blue Devils and Bulldogs, the Evergreen High Aggies will try to get back on victory road here Friday night. The powerful Blue Eagles of W.S. Neal, East Brewton, will furnish the opposition in the title with the kickoff set for 8 p.m.

The Evergreen Aggies cashed in on their breaks to edge the Andalusia High Bulldogs, 13-12, in Andalusia Friday night. The win was Evergreen’s second of the year and extended their unbeaten string to 12 straight.
The running of Bobby (Pistol Pete) Wells was the brightest spot in the Evergreen offense. The 123-pound Aggie halfbacks ran as hard as any man on the field and picked his holes well. Billy Mudge Lee was on the credit side of the ledger with his play before going out shortly before the half with an injury. Gillis Morgan passed nicely with his receivers doing a good job.

The Evergreen Aggies defeated Andalusia 13-12 Friday night for their second win of the year, but the victory was expensive. Billy Mudge Lee, star left halfback, was lost for the season with a broken vertebra.
Lee sustained the injury when he tackled an Andalusia back in the second quarter. He played on for four or five minutes before going out of the game. He came out of the game only a few plays before the end of the first half and went back in to kick that vital extra point that extended Evergreen’s undefeated string to 12-straight.
Billy Mudge was X-rayed at Stabler’s Hospital in Greenville Saturday and the pictures showed a clean break in the third vertebra.

The undefeated but often-injured Evergreen High Aggies will put their perfect record on the line Friday night in Brooks Stadium when they meet Frisco City in the first home game.
