This week's movie picks are 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' and 'The Rum Diary'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

Bullhead (R, Drama, Crime): Directed by Michael R. Roskam and starring Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeroen Perceval, Jeanne Dandoy, Barbara Sarafian and Tibo Vandenborre.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (PG-13, Action, Suspense): Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and starring Nicolas Cage, Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth.

Michael (Drama): Directed by Markus Schleinzer and starring Michael Fuith, David Rauchenberger, Christine Kain, Ursula Strauss and Viktor Tremmel.

On the Ice (R, Drama, Suspense): Directed by Andrew Okpeaha MacLean and starring Frank Qutuq Irelan, Adamina Kerr, John Miller, Josiah Patkotak and Rosabelle Kunnanna Rexford.

The Secret World of Arrietty (G, Family, Fantasy): Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and starring the voices of Bridgit Mendler, David Henrie, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett and Carol Burnett.

Thin Ice (Comedy, Crime): Directed by Jill Sprecher and starring Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup, David Harbour and Bob Balaban.

This Means War (R, Action, Comedy): Directed by McG and starring Tom Hardy, Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Til Schweiger and Chelsea Handler.

Undefeated (PG-13, Documentary): Directed by Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin.

New DVD releases for the week of Feb. 14 include:

All Things Fall Apart (R, Drama): Directed by Mario Van Peebles and starring Curtis Jackson, Mario Van Peebles, Ray Liotta and Lynn Whitfield.

The Dead (R, Horror, Action): Directed by Howard J. Ford and Jonathan Ford and starring Elizabeth Akingbade, Benjamin C. Akpa, Stephen Asare Amaning, Anthony Arinze and Kwesi Asmah.

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within (Not Rated, Action, Crime): Directed by Jose Padilha and starring Wagner Moura, Irandhir Santos, Andre Ramiro, Milhem Cortaz and Maria Ribeiro.

Human Centipede II: Full Sequence (Not Rated, Horror): Directed by Tom Six and starring Ashlynn Yennie, Dominic Borelli, Laurence R. Harvey, Georgia Goodrick and Lucas Hansen.

The Interrupters (Not Rated, Documentary): Directed by Steve James and starring Eddie Bocanegra, Ameena Matthews, Ricardo Williams, Tio Hardiman and Gary Slutkin.

Mama, I Want to Sing (PG, Drama, Family): Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright and starring Ciara, Ahmaya-Knoelle, Paris Bennett, Kristen Broussard and Juanita Bynum.

Mozart’s Sister (Not Rated, Drama): Directed by Rene Feret and starring Marie Feret, Marc Barbe, David Moreau, Delphine Chuillot and Clovis Fouin.

The Rum Diary (R, Drama, Comedy): Directed by Bruce Robinson and starring Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, Amber Heard and Amaury Nolasco.

Take Shelter (R, Drama, Suspense): Directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Michael Shannon, Jessica Chastain, Katy Mixon, Shea Whigham and Kathy Baker.

Tiny Furniture (Not Rated, Drama, Comedy): Directed by Lena Dunham and starring Lena Dunham, Laurie Simmons, Grace Dunham, Rachel Howe and Merritt Wever.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Rum Diary.”
