Shriners Say Big ‘Thank You!’
– I would like to say on behalf of the Tri-County Shrine Club that we appreciate
the friendly attitude shown to us during our Shrine Newspaper sale. We raised
$611, all of which will go to various charities of the Tri-County Shrine Club
of Abba Temple to help burned and crippled children. This was a tremendous
success. I never felt so proud to be a Shriner as I did that Saturday, June 2.
Everyone greeted us with a smile a mile wide. I am really looking forward to
next year’s paper sale. Again, thank you for being the fine people you are here
in Conecuh County. – Howard J. “Jim” Register Jr.

County Board of Directors at their meeting Monday returned the county to the
old district system of operations after over a year and a half under the unit
system.

over by a 3 to 1 margin.
The motion was
passed over the stout opposition of Board Chairman J.H. Tranum and member W.I.
Cook. Both Mr. Tranum and Mr. Cook stated that they were definitely in favor of
retaining the unit system which the county went under in October 1952.
Andrews Promoted
To Chief Of Police: John Andrews has been named chief of police by the
Evergreen City Council. Chief Andrews’s promotion was made by the council at
its meeting Tuesday night at the City.
The new police
chief has been on the force for some time and the council felt that his work
had earned him the promotion. The local police force had been without a chief
for several months following the resignation of Chief Emmons early this year.
The council also
announced that two new policemen had been employed to bring the city force up
to full strength for the first time since Chief Emmons resigned. Quinton Gaston
and Coach Wendell Hart have been added to the force and will do night duty.
