Evergreen weather observer Betty Ellis reported 0.09 inches of rain on April 24. She also reported a high of 83 degrees on April 27 and a low of 48 on April 25.

Page named to Hall of Fame: Former Evergreen attorney Edwin Cary Page Jr., who passed away in 1999, will be among five lawyers inducted into the Alabama State Bar Lawyers’ Hall of Fame tomorrow (Friday) in Montgomery.
Page, who was born in 1906, practiced law in Conecuh County for 71 years and “was a leader in the local community who epitomized the iconic image of the small-town lawyer,” Alabama State Bar representatives. Page served with distinction in the U.S. Navy during World War II, served as county solicitor for many years served as a long-time member of the Alabama State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners.

Brewton business to locate in city: A new business is coming to Evergreen.
On Wednesday of last week, Andrew Clark, the owner of Weaver’s Apparel & Fine Jewelry in Brewton, signed an agreement to locate a second store within the new Liberty Hill development in Evergreen. County Commissioner Johnny Andrews and Evergreen Mayor Pete Wolff were on hand for the official signing ceremony, which was held in the Old Depot in downtown Evergreen.  
Weaver’s Apparel & Fine Jewelry is expected to begin construction sometime in the second quarter of the year and hopes to be open for business before the Christmas shopping season.

Evergreen weather observer Earl Windham reported a high of 85 degrees on April 26 and a low of 46 on May 2. He reported 7.48 inches of rain during the month of January, 4.34 inches in February, 6.65 inches in March and 3.38 inches in April.

23rd Market Hog Show is set May 11: The 23rd Annual Conecuh County Market Hog Show will be held Wed., May 11, at nine o’clock a.m. at the Conecuh County Stockyard. The show is sponsored by the Evergreen Kiwanis Club. Official judge is Phillip Ellis.
Exhibitors in the show will be Johnny Grace, Michael Crosby, Tommy Burt, Pam Jones, Brian Black, David Black, Wendy Stacey, Chris Hamrac, Regina Hawsey and the Evergreen FFA Chapter.

Senator Heflin coming here May 5: Alabama’s senior U.S. Senator Howell Heflin will hold a town meeting here next Thursday morning at 10 o’clock at the Courthouse. He invites county citizens to come discuss the issues of the day with him. Senator Heflin has visited Conecuh County and every county in the state at least once a year since he took office.

First Lt. Herbert Preston Rabren of Evergreen was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service from August 1984 to March 1988. Lt. Rabren served as detachment commander of the First Battalion, 117th Field Artillery.
Lt. Rabren is a graduate of Marion Military Institute, Marion, Ala., and the U.S. Army Field Artillery School of Fort Sill, Okla.

Dr. Dunn Gives Books To Library: Dr. Milton C. Dunn, a physician of Florence, celebrated National Library Week by presenting 61 volumes of reference books to the Repton High School Library. Most of the books are American Heritage publications.
Dr. Dunn is the son of Mrs. M.C. Dunn Sr. and the late Judge M.C. Dunn of Repton. Dr. Dunn graduated from Repton High School in 1925.

EHS Band will give concert Friday night: The Evergreen High School Band will be presented in spring concert Friday night at eight o’clock in the Evergreen City School Auditorium. Frank G. Wilkerson is director of the top-ranked band.
Ordinarily, the band is presented in joint concert with the glee club, but this year due to a shortage of male voices, the local school does not have a glee club.
The evening’s program is varied with music that should appeal to every taste. Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for students.

Thirty-one Pay Chamber Dues: A total of 31 have paid 1963-64 dues to the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce to date, according to President Blake Campbell. He added that statements have been mailed to all business and professional people and termed this early response “good.”
Campbell urges those who have not yet mailed in dues to do so or give them to him or turn them in at the chamber office, upstairs over the Bank of Evergreen.

Light Work Here For Circuit Court This Week: The spring term of circuit court which convened here Monday morning of this week found the lightest docket in a number of years.
There was one capital case. Tom Howard was indicted for carnal knowledge and his trial is set for Monday of next week. Attorney R.H. Jones was appointed by the court to defend him.

BURNS PROVE FATAL TO CASTLEBERRY WOMAN: Mrs. Belle Haynes, 54, died from the effects of burns, which she received early Monday morning, death occurring at two o’clock Monday afternoon. Mrs. Haynes’s clothing caught from a fire in the fireplace, according to reports. No one was in the house with her at the time except a small child.

Boy Scout Bulletin: Last Monday night, the Scouts began their meeting with a fast and enjoyable game of “Relay.” The business meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. After a short talk by Mr. McMillan and the reorganization of patrols, we had honors. The meeting was closed with Taps.
