This week's movie picks are 'John Carter' and 'Immortals'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

Bending the Rules (Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Artie Mandelberg and starring Adam Copeland, Jamie Kennedy, Alicia Witt, Jennifer Esposito and Jessica Walter.

The Decoy Bride (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Sheree Folkson and starring David Tennant, Kelly Macdonald, Alice Eve, Michael Urie and Federico Castelluccio.

Friends With Kids (Comedy, Romance): Directed by Jennifer Westfeldt and starring Jennifer Westfeldt, Adam Scott, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm.

Good for Nothing (Western, Action, R): Directed by Mike Wallis and starring Cohen Holloway, Inge Rademeyer, Jon Pheloung, Richard Thompson and Steve Cronin.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi (Documentary, PG): Directed by David Gelb.

John Carter (Science Fiction, Action, PG-13): Directed by Andrew Stanton and starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong and Samantha Morton.

Playback (Horror, Suspense, R): Directed by Michael A. Nickles and starring Johnny Pacar, Ambyr Childers, Christian Slater, Jonathan Keltz and Alessandra Torresani.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (Comedy, Drama, PG-13): Directed by Lasse Hallstrom and starring Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Kristin Scott Thomas, Rachael Stirling and Amr Waked.

Seeking Justice (Action, Suspense, R): Directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Nicolas Cage, January Jones, Guy Pearce, Jennifer Carpenter and Harold Perrineau.

Silent House (Horror, R): Directed by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau and starring Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens and Julia Taylor Ross.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “John Carter,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Immortals.”
