This week's movie picks are 'Captain Phillips' and 'The Hangover: Part III'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

- All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (Horror, R): Directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Amber Heard, Anson Mount, Michael Welch, Aaron Himelstein and Edwin Hodge.

- Captain Phillips (Action, Suspense, Drama, PG-13): Directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, Yul Vazquez, Christopher Stadulis and Corey Johnson.

- CBGB (Drama, R): Directed by Randall Miller and starring Malin Akerman, Ryan Hurst, Stana Katic, Ashley Greene and Johnny Galecki.

- Escape from Tomorrow (Horror, Fantasy): Directed by Randy Moore and starring Roy Abramsohn, Elena Schuber, Katelynn Rodriguez, Jack Dalton and Danielle Safady.

- The Fifth Estate (Drama, R): Directed by Bill Condon and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Daniel Bruhl, Carice Van Houten, Peter Capaldi and Dan Stevens.

- The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete (Drama, R): Directed by George Tillman Jr. and starring Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright, Anthony Mackie, Jennifer Hudson and Skylan Brooks.

- Machete Kills (Action, R): Directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba and Mel Gibson.

- Romeo and Juliet (Romance, Drama, PG-13): Directed by Carlo Carlei and starring Hailee Steinfeld, Douglas Booth, Damian Lewis, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ed Westwick.

- Sweetwater (Western, Suspense, Drama, R): Directed by Logan Miller and starring January Jones, Ed Harris, Jason Isaacs, Jason Aldean and Eduardo Noriega.

- Zero Charisma (Comedy): Directed by Kate Graham and Andrew Matthews and starring Sam Eidson, Anne Gee Byrd, Brock England, Garrett Graham and Cyndi Williams.

New DVD releases this week include:

- After Earth (Science Fiction, Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Jaden Smith, Will Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman, Zoe Kravitz and David Denman.

- Curse of Chucky (Horror, R): Directed by Don Mancini and starring Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti and A. Martinez.

- Europa Report (Science Fiction, Suspense): Directed by Sebastian Cordero and starring Sharlto Copley, Karolina Wydra, Michael Nyqvist, Christian Camargo and Daniel Wu.

- The Hangover: Part III (Comedy, R): Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Ken Jeong.

- Home Run (Drama, PG-13): Directed by David Boyd and starring Scott Elrod, Dorian Brown, Vivica A. Fox, Sami Isler and Elvin John Rosa Jr.

- The Lifeguard (Comedy, Drama, R): Directed by Liz W. Garcia and starring Kristen Bell, Mamie Gummer, Martin Starr, Joshua Harto and David Lambert.

- Much Ado About Nothing (Drama, Comedy, Romance, PG-13): Directed by Joss Whedon and starring Reed Diamond, Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Tom Lenk and Fran Kranz.

- Nothing Left to Fear (Horror, R): Directed by Antohny Leonard III and starring Anne Heche, James Tupper, Ethan Peck, Rebekah Brandes and Carter Cabassa.

- The Purge (Suspense, Crime, Science Fiction, R): Directed by James DeMonaco and starring Lena Headey, Ethan Hawke, Edwin Hodge, Max Burkholder and Tony Oller.

- Zombie Hunter (Action, Horror): Directed by K. King and starring Danny Trejo, Martin Copping, Clare Niederpruem, Jarrod Phillips and Marianne Smith.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Captain Phillips,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Hangover: Part III.”
