Kay Hawsey, nine-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Houston Hawsey, showed the older hunters ‘how to do it’ when she killed this fine ‘Tom.’ The turkey weighed 13 pounds and had an eight-inch beard. Kay killed the turkey on Tuesday morning in Monroe County.

Aggies upset Monroe Tigers: Evergreen came back after the holiday break on Jan. 6 to win their biggest game of the season as they defeated the previously unbeaten Monroeville Tigers by a score of 65-60. The Aggies were paced by Johnny Allen with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Following were Horace Smith and Michael Lampley with 14 points each.

The Warriors defeated Fort Deposit in a game played there Friday night, 74-68. Terry Shipp hit 23 points to lead the Warrior scoring. Jeff Johnson had 16 points, Ed Carrier, 10; Vince Watts, seven; Joe McInvale, Joey Johnson and Wes Brown, four each; Russ Raines, three; and Scotty Grace, one.

Evergreen Aggies Bump Beatrice: Riding the crest of their best season since 1950, the Evergreen High Aggies chalked up their eighth triumph of the season here Tuesday night, downing Beatrice, 41-36, before a near-capacity crowd. The Hart-coached Aggies were off form, but still managed to stay in front all the way.
(Randy) White maintained his point-making clip as he hit the cords with 20 points in spite of fouling out with a quarter to go. Jimmy Frazier netted seven; Ward Alexander Jr. and Hosea King, five each; Wayne Douglas, three; and Charles King, one.
Stabler and Luker were ringleaders for Beatrice netting 13 and 10 points respectively. Anderson had nine and Johnson and Johnston, two each.

Improving Aggies Trounce T.R. Miller Friday Night 66 To 41: The surging Evergreen High Aggies plastered a faltering T.R. Miller High quintet 66-41 in Brewton last Friday night. Continuing their rapid improvement, Coach Wendell Hart’s Aggies hung up their first basketball victory over Miller since 1950.
Big Randy White continued to pace the Aggie attack netting 22 points to lead the scoring. White has topped the 20 mark in the past three games scoring a total of 75 points, an average of 25 per contest.
Runner-up in the scoring race was Ward Alexander Jr. with 15 points followed closely by Hosea King with 12. Wayne Douglas sent eight points through the cords; Jimmy Frazier, five; and Buck Lewis and Dale Blair, two each.
Jerry Kelly was the ringleader in Miller’s losing cause with 14 points. Tommy Martin had nine; Bobby Smith, eight; Bob Bryant and Taylor, four each; and Mack Fuqua, two.

Repton Rally Whips Castleberry 52-44: Coach Albert Arnold’s Repton High Bulldogs won their eighth decision in nine starts this season with a fourth quarter rally at Castleberry Friday night. Trailing Coach Ray Owens’ County High Blue Devils by three points at the end of the third, the Bulldogs surged into the lead and won going away, 52-44.
Harry Giles was the big gun in the Repton attack, netting 22 points. Billy Farrish tallied 10 points; Paul Brantley, nine; Ray Blackwell and Burt Stacey, five each; and Roger Kearley, one.
Charles Hart with 17 and Wilbur Heaton with 10 were ringleaders for Castleberry. Bobby Daw dropped nine, Leon Raines, four; Ray Oliver, two; and Lewis Heaton, two.

Aggies Snap Miller Win Streak At Nine, 21 To 17: Coach E.L. McInnis’ red hot Evergreen Aggies ran their win streak to seven straight and stopped the Miller High squad’s at nine straight in a fast played game in Brewton Tuesday night, 21 to 17. The Millers, who had not met defeat in nine games, took command of the game in the first half, and grabbed a six-point lead before the locals dented the basket. Three foul shots made good by Huey (2) and Hart kept the Aggies in the game, and the half ended with the Millers leading six to three and both teams playing defensive ball. A rejuvenated Evergreen team took the game in hand as the second half began. With Huey and Tranum hitting the cords at will, the Aggies moved into the lead and were never in trouble again.
Robertson, stellar Brewton forward, sank 11 points to pace the Miller attack, but Huey, straight shooting Aggie forward, grabbed the high scoring honors with 12. Tranum shot six; Stinson, two; and Hart, one. Stinson played one of the best floor games seen since Billy Wiggins was cavorting in the green and white. He was all over the floor continuously tying up the Brewton attack. The entire Aggie team played good defensive ball, and their pass work left nothing to be desired. Evergreen will meet Brewton on the local court Friday afternoon, and with the Millers seeking revenge for this defeat, one of the most exciting games of the season is in prospect.
This was the locals’ seventh win in as many games. They have defeated Castleberry twice, McKenzie twice, and Lyeffion, Repton and Brewton one each.

All But Four Game Seasons Now Closed: Quail, rabbit, raccoon and opossum hunters are the only boys – if they have shells – who may now legally take the field in quest of game. The season on squirrel expired Jan. 15 in South Alabama and 15 days earlier in North Alabama. Likewise, the season on wild turkey gobblers, antlered buck deer, ducks, geese, dove, coot, rails, gallinules and sora are now mere memories. Hunters have until Feb. 20 to hunt quail, rabbit, opossum and raccoon. Turkey hunters will get a break March 20 when the spring gobbling season opens. It will continue through April 15.

Evergreen Cage Teams Win Seven During Week: Aggies 41, East Brewton, 17; Aggies 24, Night Hawks, 17; Aggies, 39, Georgiana 13; Night Hawks, 51, McKenzie 18; Night Hawks 37, Mobile Rangers 25; Evergreen Nat’l Guard 60, Greenville Nat’l Guard 12; Aggies 59, Castleberry 10; Aggies 19, Georgiana 10.
Evergreen’s three basketball teams, the Aggies, Night Hawks and Guardsmen, made a clean sweep of their seven games with outside opposition during the week ending Wednesday. The Aggies vanquished East Brewton, Georgiana and Castleberry; the Night Hawks turned back McKenzie and the Mobile Rangers; and the Evergreen National Guard company overwhelmed the Greenville company.
In addition, the Aggies and Night Hawks fought among themselves, the Aggies emerging victorious, 24 to 17.
The feature contest of the week was the Night Hawks-Mobile game Saturday night. The two teams were virtually on even terms until the third period when the Night Hawks finally drew away to gather a nine-point lead which they increased to 12 before the end of the game. At the end of the first quarter, the score was eight all and at the half, the Night Hawks led, 14 to 13. McCreary at forward and Sanders at guard stood out for the Aggies while Guiduici and Allen were the main cogs in the Mobile machine.
Coach Abe Robinson’s Aggies swept their 13th straight triumph Tuesday afternoon when the Castleberry invasion was easily repulsed, 59-10. It was the fourth victory of the week for the Aggies, who on Wednesday night beat both East Brewton and the Night Hawks and on Friday night Georgiana. They made 14 straight Wednesday by trimming Georgiana again, 19-10.
Robinson announced Wednesday that the next opposition for the Aggies will be furnished by McKenzie Thursday night. A basketball double-header will be played, teams of each sex meeting at the Armory beginning at 7:30.
John T. Hanks, the Night Hawks pilot, said that the next appearance for his charges will be Friday night at the Armory when the Georgiana Athletic club and the Night Hawks will play off a game scheduled for last week but which was prevented by rain.
