I read The Mobile Press-Register every day and especially on Thursdays because the Thursday edition includes the paper’s weekly entertainment tabloid, Bay Weekend, aka, The BW.The first thing I look for in the BW is Dan Murphy’s “What’s Brewing” column. Murphy is a page designer by trade, but he’s also the paper’s “resident beer nut” and the leader of the Mobile/Baldwin County chapter of “Free the Hops.”
Tonight’s blog entry is inspired by Murphy, who mentioned in his column this week that Truck Stop Honey, brewed by Alabama’s Back Forty Brewing Co., received a silver medal in the Specialty Honey Ale category at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver on Saturday.
This got me to wondering about what other beers won awards during this year’s Great American Beer Festival, so I looked it up. And tonight, I give you a list of the winners. In addition to six brewery and brewer of the year awards, awards are also given in 80 other categories.
