Lions To Sponsor Boy Scout Project: County Superintendent M.A. Hanks was a visitor at the Lions Club Wednesday and spoke to that organization concerning plans that are underway for the organization of a Boy Scout Council in Conecuh, Escambia and Monroe counties with Rev. C.P. Rigler, former pastor of the Presbyterian churches in Evergreen and Brewton, in charge. Rev. Rigler recently announced his resignation as pastor of these churches. If the organization is perfected, and it seems sure that it will be, Rev. Rigler will be in charge of the Scout work at Brewton, Atmore, Monroeville and Evergreen. He will maintain his residence in Brewton.
Lions O.C. McGehee, W.W. Kingsberry and L.D. King Jr. were appointed as a committee to go with Supt. Hanks to Brewton at an early date to confer with representatives from the other places to perfect the organization plans. This committee was authorized to say that the Evergreen Lions Club would guarantee Evergreen’s pro rata share of the necessary expense attached to the project.
Lion W.P. McMillan has served as scoutmaster of the local troop for the past several years and has done some very fine work. It is said however, that the local troop has been handicapped considerably by not having the advantage of access to a Council which could and would give it active service. Lion McMillan will continue to be scoutmaster of the troop if the proposed organization of the Council is perfected and he will be assisted in a very material way by Rev. Rigler.
