“Greenies Soundly Beaten By Jay Sunday, 12 To 1: JAY, FLA., Aug. 1 – A resurgent Jay nine handed the Evergreen Greenies their worst defeat since the club was organized three years ago here today by a 12 to 1 score.
“George Gaston started for the Greenies, but was soon forced from the mound. ‘Check’ Ellis relieved Gaston, but the Jay sluggers found him just as easy to hit and sent him to the showers in the fifth. Big Wendell Hart started the sixth and let the Jay squad down with only one hit in the final three innings.
“John Greel Ralls scored the only Greenie marker in the sixth. Ralls beat out an infield hit, went to second on the wild throw to first. He moved to third on Hart’s infield out and scored when Ameson, Jay catcher, threw out at second.”

“Our Edsel Scores Only Run And Brewton Wins: Edsel Johnson, former star Greenie third sacker, is finding professional pitching a bit tough to solve, but base running is no puzzle to him. Once on base, Johnson has been a needle in the sides of pitchers opposing the Brewton Millers. In less than a week of play in the professional Alabama State League, Johnson has crossed the plate with the decisive run three times.”

“League Directors Uphold Murphy’s Forfeit Ruling: ATMORE, Aug. 2 – The Tri-County League Directors voted here tonight to uphold Umpire Claude Murphy’s ruling on the Frisco City-Evergreen game of July 25. Umpire Murphy awarded the game to Evergreen on forfeit when the Frisco City squad refused to resume play after an argument in the seventh.
“Five directors voted to uphold the decision while one did not vote.”

At the same time he ran his string of consecutive scoreless innings to 38 and chalked up his tenth straight victory. W. Welch, W. Lloyd, W. Johnson led the hitters each with 8 to 5. The Black Sox play Andalusia Thursday. The team has given H. Randolph plenty of praise for his wonderful pitching Sunday in letting Atmore down without a hit.”

“BOY SCOUT NEWS: Our Scout team defeated Castleberry Juniors last Wednesday 1-0 in a close game that was called in the seventh inning on account of rain.
“We played Castleberry again at Castleberry on Friday afternoon that ended in 3-3 deadlock after 11 innings of play.

“Our team will meet Castleberry on Wednesday P.M. to play off the tie.
“At Gantt’s Field on Thursday P.M., at 3 o’clock, our Scout team will play the fast Repton Juniors. Make your plans to see this game. A small admission will be charged to pay for balls, but all Girl scouts and Boy scouts are admitted free of charge.
“The Scouts defeated the Castleberry junior team 1 to 0 at Gantt’s Field Wednesday. The game was a pitching duel between Lane, Evergreen and Gray, Castleberry.”
