My movie picks this week are 'Conan the Barbarian' and 'Priest'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

- 5 Days of War (R, Action, Drama, War): Directed by Renny Harlin and starring Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Richard Coyle, Val Kilmer and Andy Garcia.

- Amigo (R, Drama, War): Directed by John Sayles and starring Chris Cooper, D.J. Qualls, Dane DeHaan, Garrett Dillahunt and Joel Torre.

- Conan the Barbarian (R, Action, Adventure, Fantasy): Directed by Marcus Nispel and starring Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Bob Sapp and Leo Howard.

- Flypaper (Not Yet Rated, Comedy, Crime): Starring Patrick Dempsey, Ashley Judd, Tim Blake Nelson, Mekhi Phifer and Matt Ryan.

- Fright Night (R, Comedy, Horror, Thriller): Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Imogen Poots and Toni Collette.

- Griff the Invisible (PG-13, Comedy, Drama, Romance): Directed by Leon Ford and starring Ryan Kwanten, Maeve Dermody, Marshall Napier, Toby Schmitz and Heather Mitchell.

- The Hedgehog (Not Yet Rated, Comedy, Drama): Directed by Mona Achache and starring Josiane Balasko, Garance le Guillermic, Togo Igawa and Anne Brochet.

- Mozart’s Sister (Not Rated, Drama): Directed by Rene Feret and starring Marie Feret, Marc Barbe, David Moreau, Delphine Chuillot and Clovis Fouin.

- One Day (PG-13, Drama, Romance): Directed by Lone Scherfig and starring Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Patricia Clarkson, Ken Stott and Romola Garai.

- Spy Kids: All The Time In the World in 4D (PG, Action, Comedy, Family): Directed by Robert Rodriguez and Jessica Alba, Mason Cook, Rowan Blanchard, Joel McHale and Jeremy Piven.

New DVD releases for the week of Aug. 16 include:

- The Bang Bang Club (R, Drama, Action): Directed by Steven Silver and starring Ryan Phillipee, Malin Akerman, Taylor Kitsch, Ashley Mulheron and Frank Rautenbach.

- The Best and the Brightest (R, Comedy): Directed by Josh Shelov and starring Neil Patrick Harris, Bonnie Somerville, Amy Sedaris, Christopher McDonald and John Hodgman.

- The Conspirator (PG-13, Drama, Epic and Historical, Suspense): Directed by Robert Redford and starring James McAvoy, Robin Wright, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline and Evan Rachel Wood.

- The Grace Card (PG-13, Drama): Directed by David G. Evans and starring Michael Joiner, Michael Higgenbottom, Louis Gossett Jr., Joy Moore and Dawntoya Thomason.

- Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (PG, Animation, Comedy, Family): Directed by Mike Disa and starring the voices of Hayden Panettiere, Glenn Close, Joan Cusack, David Ogden Stiers and Benjy Gaither.

- Jane Eyre (PG-13, Drama, Romance): Directed by Cary Fukunaga and starring Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell, Judi Dench and Sally Hawkins.

- John Carpenter’s The Ward (R, Horror, Suspense): Directed by John Carpenter and starring Amber Heard, Danielle Panabaker, Mamie Gummer, Laura-Leigh and Jared Harris.

- Priest (PG-13, Action, Horror): Directed by Scott Stewart and starring Paul Bettany, Maggie Q, Cam Gigandet, Karl Urban and Lily Collins.

- Queen to Play (Not Yet Rated, Drama): Directed by Caroline Bottaro and starring Sandrine Bonnaire, Kevin Kline, Valerie Lagrange, Francis Renaud and Alexandra Gentil.

- Something Borrowed (PG-13, Romance, Comedy): Directed by Luke Greenfield and starring Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Krasinski, Colin Egglesfield and Steve Howey.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Conan the Barbarian,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Priest.”
