“County Lake ‘in balance’: A recent check of Lake Shirley (County Lake) indicated that the lake was in balance with both bream and bass growing and reproducing. The check was made at the request of the Conecuh County Commission.
“Larry Johnson, District Fisheries Biologist of the State Department of Conservation, of Daphne conducted the check. He told Commission Chairman David Burt that there was a lot of algae in the lake. He said this could be treated and cleared up, but due to the large water shed would last only a short time. Such treatment was not recommended.
“Johnson also said: ‘Since the water shed is so large, it is impossible to have a successful fertilization program. Continue to manage the lake as you have in the past.’”
