ASFFHS announces winners of the 39th Annual Saturn Awards

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films recently announced the winners of the 39th Annual Saturn Awards and a number of top notch movies and TV series were recognized for being among the best of the best.

This year’s winners included:

- Best Science Fiction Film – “The Avengers”

- Best Fantasy Film – “Life of Pi”

- Best Horror or Thriller Film – “The Cabin in the Woods”

- Best Action/Adventure Film – “Skyfall”

- Best International Film – “Headhunters”

- Best Animated Film – “Frankenweenie”

- Best Independent Film – “Killer Joe”

Other movie awards presented this year included:

- Best Director – Joss Whedon for “The Avengers”

- Best Writing – Quentin Tarantino for “Django Unchained”

- Best Actor – Matthew McConaughey for “Killer Joe”

- Best Actress – Jennifer Lawrence for “The Hunger Games”

- Best Supporting Actor – Clarke Gregg for “The Avengers”

- Best Supporting Actress – Anne Hathaway for “The Dark Knight Rises”

- Best Performance by a Younger Actor – Suraj Sharma for “Life of Pi”

- Best Music – Danny Elfman for “Frankenweenie”

- Best Production Design – Dan Hennah for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

- Best Editing – Alexander Berner for “Cloud Atlas”

- Best Costume – Paco Delgado for “Les Miserables”

- Best Make-up – Heike Merker, Daniel Parker and Jeremy Woodhead for “Cloud Atlas”

- Best Special Effects – Janke Sirrs, Jeff White, Guy Williams and Dan Sudick for “The Avengers”

The ASFFHF also handed out its yearly slate of awards for excellence in television, naming winners in nine categories. They included:

- Best Network Television Series – “Revolution”

- Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series – “The Walking Dead”

- Best Television Presentation – “Breaking Bad”

- Best Youth-Oriented Television Series – “Teen Wolf”

- Best Actor in Television – tie between Bryan Cranston for “Breaking Bad” and Kevin Bacon for “The Following”

- Best Actress in Television – Anna Torv for “Fringe”

- Best Supporting Actor on Television – Jonathan Banks for “Breaking Bad”

- Best Supporting Actress in Television – Laurie Holden for “The Walking Dead”

- Best Guest Starring Role in Television – Yvonne Strahovski for “Dexter”
