“Castleberry Hands Evergreen Shut-Out: Castleberry, Ala., Aug. 5 – Castleberry made it two straight for the season over Evergreen last Thursday, Hyde pitching the locals to a 3 to 0 victory.
“The slim right-hander held Evergreen to five hits, struck out 10 men and did not issue a base on balls. One of the five hits was an infield roller which should have been fielded.
“Murphy also allowed only five hits but his momentary wildness in the third and eighth innings enabled Castleberry to score each of its three runs. In the third he hit Smith, who was forced at second by Holland, and gave a base on balls to R. Matthews. Both scored on Bradley’s single.
“In the eighth, R. Matthews walked and Bradley got safe on Gaston’s poor throw to first. The former scored on K. Matthews single to right-center.
“Clarence Miller, Evergreen fire baseman, handled 17 of the 24 putouts made by his team. Castleberry batsmen knocked the ball 11 times in the territory of Gaston, Evergreen third baseman, and he threw 10 of them out at first.”
“SCOUTS TO MEET: All members of the Girl Scouts will meet Monday afternoon, Aug. 12, at the home of Mrs. E.E. Newton. A full attendance is urged.”
