Two UFO reports were filed in Alabama during the month of July

It’s the third week of the month, so this week I’m giving you an update on UFO reports in Alabama from the previous month, courtesy of the Mutual UFO Network.

A search for UFO reports in Alabama between July 1 and July 31 on MUFON’s website, www.mufon.com, resulted in two reports from within our state during that time.

The first incident occurred on Sun., July 7, at 9 p.m. in Cullman, which is about 50 miles north of Birmingham. The witness in this case said he was driving south on Cullman County Road 747 and had just passed Mount Olive Church when he saw a glowing orange object in the sky to the south. The object was near cloud level and appeared to be golf ball-sized to the witness.

The witness pulled over briefly to observe the object and then continued south until he lost sight of the object due to the trees and hills. The witness said he didn’t give the object much thought at the time and continued on to to the store. He left the store later and began heading home on County Road 747 when he saw this object again.

This time, the glowing object was stationary and in line with the road, but remained at cloud level. The witness stopped his vehicle again to observe the object, as did the occupants of a pickup truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. The witness then opened his sunroof and tried to take a picture.

As he attempted to photograph the object, a second glowing, orange “ball” appeared near the first object. The second object appeared after the witness photographed the original object and when he tried to photograph the new object, both of them disappeared “just as quick as a light switch.”

The witness said that he doesn’t know what these objects were, but he said he believes that they weren’t manmade lights, helicopters, planes, blimps or birds.

The second incident occurred on Sat., July 27, at 11 p.m. in Remlap, which is an unincorporated community in Blount County, about 12 miles southwest of Oneonta.

The witness in this case was among a group of people stargazing on a boat at Inland Lake. As he looked to the south, at an elevation of about 45 to 50 degrees, he saw what appeared to be a “single rotation of a very bright, white light.” The light flashed or rotated once and then about 30 seconds later it did so again, but slightly down and to the left of where it flashed the first time.

“It reminded me of what one might see if you were to observe a lighthouse from a great distance or the rotating beacon at an airport, except that the light was quite bright and it exhibited only a single rotation,” the witness said. “While I have no way of verifying the height of the object, my impression was that it was very, very high in the sky. It appeared to be a very bright, powerful beacon of light - brighter than the visible stars around it - but there was no ambient light observed around me that would have been given off by the object.”

Before closing out this week, I just want to put it out there again that I would be very interested to hear from any readers of The Courant who have witnessed a UFO in Conecuh County. I think a lot of other people would be interested in hearing your story too, and I’m willing to accept your report anonymously.
