'Missing 411 - Hunters' should be read by everyone venturing into the outdoors

“Missing 411 – Hunters: Unexplained Disappearances” by David Paulides is one of the most fascinating – and creepy – books I’ve ever read, and I think a lot of you in the reading audience, especially hunters, would be interested in reading it as well.

Published earlier this year, this 348-page book details nearly 150 unusual cases of hunters who have gone missing across the country over the years, the vast majority of which vanished without a trace and whose bodies have never been recovered.

In his book, Paulides, an investigative journalist who has spent much of his career investigating missing people, doesn’t detail just regular, run-of-mill missing hunter cases. Instead, every case in the book meets certain unusual criteria, including cases where search dogs can’t find a scent, cases involving unusual weather, cases near locations where others have gone missing, cases were the victim is found in an area previously searched, cases involving bodies of water and cases involving hunters with disabilities or illnesses.

Paulides also takes a close look at cases in which the hunter disappears in the late afternoon or early evening. According to Paulides, the predominant time that disappearances occur is just before it gets dark.

What follows is page after page of highly researched reports of people from all walks of life who vanish while hunting throughout the country for all sorts of wild game. The earliest reports in the book go back into the 1890s and some occurred as recently as last year. Paulides also does a good job of connecting the dots between different cases, often separated by decades, that have bizarre similarities that will not only make you think, but will also probably leave you looking over your shoulder the next time you step foot in the woods.

One particular aspect of the book that I found extremely interesting is how Paulides points out that bow hunters go missing at a higher rate than hunters with firearms. He indicates that bow hunters have to use stealth to get close to their targets to get a good shot and may find themselves right on top of something unexpected while slipping through the woods.

Another interesting aspect of the book is that Paulides leaves the explanations for these disappearances up in the air. The book does a great job of showing that something is happening out there in the woods, but what it is is up for discussion and debate. If you’re looking for a good book that will really make you think, “Missing 411 - Hunters” is one that you will not want to miss, especially if you spend a lot of time in the outdoors.

To buy a copy of “Missing 411 – Hunters,” visit Paulides’ Web site at canammissing.org. While there, you might want to check out some of Paulides’ other books. They include “Missing 411: Western United States,” “Missing 411: Eastern United States,” “Missing 411: North America and Beyond,” “Missing 411: The Devil’s in the Detail” and “Missing 411: A Sobering Coincidence.” Each book sells for $24.95

To be perfectly honest, now that I’ve read “Missing 411 - Hunters,” I plan to read all of Paulides’ other books. If they are half as fascinating as “Missing 411 - Hunters,” then I’ve got a lot to look forward to. Those of you who have read “Missing 411 - Hunters” will know what I’m talking about.

  1. I have 6 of David's books and plan to get "Hunters". It is my belief
that many of the things David writes about are in deed connected and
they are connected in such a way that we are not willing to accept.
I would encourage everyone to check out Richard D. Hall website.
He is a researcher from England and what he has uncovered, I believe, ties in with David's work. Much of this is being covered
up. As you walk down this path, Keep your eyes open and connect the
    dots.

  3. A fearing eye becomes a blind eye. You will never except a truth for that which you can not see. I have been following this for some time now, and to be honest things do not seem as they appear. It seems to me that it can be viewed from many different opinions. But therein lies the problem. Even though we have several unusual circumstances, there just isn't any evidence to make a final conclusion. I almost wonder if it is intentionally presented this way to keep the curious confused so not to interrupt the bigger plan at play here.

  5. I write this as a response to Josh Murphy. If you are saying that
David Paulides is intentionally writing in such a way to only present
one side of the story, I have to disagree, respectfully. If you are
saying that others, those in power, are intentionally covering up
the real story, I fully agree. Money and power are always a driving
force behind any story. And when you throw in government employees
covering their collective butts for the sake of their jobs, one can
see the agenda driving any sort of cover-up. David brings up some
very good points concerning the records of the missing. The most
important being the National Park Service stating that they do not
keep records of missing people. I was raised on a cattle farm and
I know what bulls leave behind smells like. And it smells like what
    the NPS says.

  6. As I read through Paulides' books on this subject, I made a list of what I thought were the defining characteristics of the phenomena or, to put it another way, the capabilities of whatever is doing this to people:

-uninhibited by terrain no matter how rugged

-uninhibited by rivers, lakes, swamps, mud, muck

-uninhibited by inclement weather of any kind or strength

    -uninhibited by darkness

-uninhibited by extremes of heat, cold, or altitude

-uninhibited by debilitating flora defenses(cactus spines, etc)

-capable of approaching people to within arm's reach while remaining completely concealed and undetected

-capable of completely overwhelming even the largest, most physically fit adults in seconds, without making a sound or allowing the victim to make one

-capable of abducting full grown adults completely silently, such that people only a few meters away neither hear nor see anything

-uninhibited by weight of person being abducted

-leaves almost no scent that SAR dogs can track, additionally, can apparently mask the scent of an abducted human

-able to conceal heat signatures from FLIR(Forward-Looking Infrared Radar)

-able to induce altered state and memory loss in human victims

-able to conceal itself completely even in open environments that are lacking any kind of cover at all

-able to, apparently, abduct hundreds or possibly thousands of people each year for at least the past 200 years without humans becoming aware that anything is happening

That is a small bit of what Ive noted. Laying it out like that makes the extraordinary nature of this phenomena really hit home.

  7. R.A., you have laid out a list that I too have noticed. And to proclaim this as extraordinary is a bit of an understatement. Many of
the claims by those able to talk after their rescues seem to be
similar to those who claim to have been abducted by UFO's. And I feel there may indeed be a connection for whatever reason. But, of
course there is no such thing as UFO's, Bigfoot, South Pole Alien
bases, or any other unusual subject because our government says so.
And we all know the government never lies. Does it?

    1. Government never lies, and the check's in the mail. Sure! Haha.

The way I see it, we live in a potentially infinite universe. Thus, there is literally nothing that cannot happen. And we experience so little of it that to presume we know its totality such that we can judge what is or isn't possible, seems the height of hubris to me.

  9. I believe bigfoots are also aliens..just a different sort, but ones who have some of the same capabilities as the others over humans.

  10. Sure seems like bigfoots are appearing just about everywhere in abundance these days. are we as a race going to be taken over by them or other aliens soon?

  11. Nicholas Garda a Middlebury College in Vermont, body found in Otter Creek. Google and read about
This man around date of May
29, 2008. His story I recall hearing about before
I moved away from where I lived in Vermont reminds me of this discussion of missing men who are taken. Makes me wonder what happened to this young man. He left others from a party and was not seen again alive.

  12. 2 years ago, a man and his wife were camping at Heyburn park between Worley and Plummer, ID. She went for a walk and they never saw her again. Was all over the news up here, no matter how careful you may be. Unknown things can still happen to you anywhere! We are dealing with something very big and unknown, something only God knows of!! madniteowl77@gmail.com

  13. I think that everything can be connected somehow, only I don't know how. I mean how could the fuzzy man, the birds, and everything else be put together, but also how could it not? There has to be a reason or some correlation. Possibly we could just not be able to understand? I mean, we are so determined to survive or be on top of the food chain that we'll turn against our own kind and wipe out entire species. Could it be that we are unable to overcome whatever it is, so we completely block out whatever it or they might be subconsciously? Maybe the very knowledge of said thing or things could drive us mad simple by knowing of it? I'm new to this, but its just one of my theories so far....We are just afraid of disappearing to whatever the reason is..

  14. This is so creepy! Something we don't know about, and have
No control over. I think it is moving to the big cities now.

  15. Yes, yes, I too believe this is being covered up. I had an experience while hunting in 2004, with the "Saran Wrap" thing (see, Missing Hunters 411); it wasn't until I heard about it & read David's book that I could actually identify it with anyone else -- less I be viewed as nuts. I've contacted David again recently (my second contact).

Getting the feeling that David is not interested in my incident, thus, getting ready to take my story elsewhere. I do believe that I can contribute additional information that no one else has lived to tell about.

Note: I believe that I came very close to being a missing hunter; however, certain actions that I took kept me alive to tell about it. My incident happened not too far from where Garrett Bardsley had gone missing just a few months before. AND a few weeks ago a hunter went missing not to far from where I had my experience -- he was not found. I am purposely omitting some information and locations to protect my privacy and exact locations.

  16. I feel like we owe those two NPS Rangers, whomever they may be and whom insisted on being heard anonymously by David Paulides, a big fat THANK YOU! Without those two stand- up and very concerned NPS employees, whom by the way, risked losing their jobs with the information they had noticed and witnessed, we still may have known nothing about this Missing: 411 phenomenom. They knew who to go to with their facts and particulars. They knew enough to know that if anyone could shine a light on these horrendous and heartbreaking disappearances, which all had a similar set of facts to them, that Paulides was their man. I know the hours of research Dave has put into these disappearances and books. All must be factual or it cannot be included in the books. There are many disappearance clusters all over the world; thousands of missing people every year and under highly-suspect circumstances that fit this Missing: 411 profile. It is Dave's very heart to get this information to as many people out there as is possible and to hopefully, over time, begin to see new patterns we have missed before and coax out a solution. There is an explanation for this, but undoubtedly, it is likely not a good one or one we could even accept. I personally feel it is something so weird and strange that it could quite possibly drive some mad with fear and/or no way to combat it. Which is what Man, as a race, does. It seems extremely arrogant to me and a real finger in the face. Especially when a child goes missing and never to be found again. This is not a new phenomenom, either. Which tells us something as well. The FBI often appears in the wings of these cases. Sometimes the Green Berets show up. Details are often painstakingly hidden from the families of the missing. Why? That is the question we should all be asking ourselves. Does our government know what is actually taking place, or are they just covering it up because they have no way to fight or stop it. Thank those two NPS Rangers and be ultra careful out there with your family or take a buddy on a hike with you. Listen to Dave Paulides, he and his posse know more about this very strange missing person event than anyone except government. He may quite possibly know more than them. Stay safe.
