It’s the third Friday of the month, so this week I’m
giving you an update on UFO reports in Alabama from the previous month,
courtesy of the Mutual UFO Network. A search for UFO reports in Alabama between
March 1 and March 31 on MUFON’s website, www.mufon.com, resulted in two reports
from within our state during that time.
The first incident took place on Wed., March 11, at 8:30
p.m. in Altoona, which is in Etowah County, in northeast Alabama. The witness
in this case said he saw a bright, blue light. Oddly, when the witness tried to
record the strange object, it wasn’t visible. He noted that it displayed
multiple colors and appeared to have windows.
The second incident took place on Fri., March 27, around
11:45 p.m. in Oneonta, which is in Blount County, not far from Etowah County.
The witnesses in this case said they was stargazing, when an unusual movement
in the sky caught his eye. At first, the witnesses thought it was the stars
moving in accordance with the earth’s rotation. On further speculation, the
witnesses noticed that some “stars” were staying in place as others were moving
in their normal pattern, left to right in the sky.
At first, the witnesses were just looking at one star, but
then they noticed that it had a shape. They described the shape as a hexagon,
about 300 square yards in area. This shape was spotted with lights that were
moving in different directions from the other stars around it.
The witnesses at first thought they were “crazy,” but they
called the police and an officer arrived a short time later. At first, he
seemed skeptical, but when he looked for himself, he also noticed something out
of the ordinary. After about 3-1/2 hours of viewing the object, the witnesses
eventually lost sight of the object and went inside.
Speaking of sights in the sky this month, the planet Venus
will get about as bright and high as it will all year in a few days. In the
evening sky, Venus, which is in the constellation of Taurus, will reach a
magnitude of -4.7. In layman’s terms this is bright enough to cast a shadow.
A good time to view Venus in the coming weeks is on the
nights of April 25 and April 26. On April 25, Venus will stand out bright, just
above the moon, and on April 26, Venus will be to the right of the moon. Of
course, this presumes that it won’t be cloudy on either night. Nothing messes
up good stargazing like heavy cloud cover.
Before closing out this week, I just want to put it out
there again that I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has
witnessed a UFO, especially in Conecuh County. I think a lot of other people
would be interested in hearing your story too, and I’m willing to accept your
report anonymously.
