This week's movie picks are 'The Conjuring' and 'Solomon Kane'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

- The Act of Killing (Documentary, TBD): Directed by Joshua Oppenheimer.

- Blackfish (Documentary, PG-13): Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite.

- Broken (Drama, TBD): Directed by Rufus Norris and starring Tim Roth, Cillian Murphy, Lily James, Rory Kinnear and Denis Lawson.

- The Conjuring (Horror, Suspense, R): Directed by James Wan and starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor and Joey King.

- Girl Most Likely (Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini and starring Kristen Wiig, Annette Bening, Darren Criss, Matt Dillon and Natasha Lyonne.

- Only God Forgives (Crime, Suspense, Drama, R): Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas, Tom Burke, Byron Gibson and Vithaya Pansringarm.

- Red 2 (Action, Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Dean Parisot and starring Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins.

- R.I.P.D. (Action, Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker and Robert Knepper.

- Turbo (Family, Comedy, PG): Directed by David Soren and starring the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Maya Rudolph, Snoop Dogg and Ken Jeong.

- Ways to Live Forever (Drama, Family, PG-13): Directed by Gustavo Ron and starring Ben Chaplin, Emilia Fox, Greta Scacchi, Robbie Kay and Alex Etel.

New DVD releases this week include:

- 42 (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Brian Helgeland and starring Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford, Nicole Beharie, Christopher Meloni and T.R. Knight.

- The Adventures of Mickey Maston and the Copperhead Treasure (Family, Adventure, PG): Directed by Harold Cronk and starring Derek Brandon, Francesca DeRosa, Patrika Darbo, Christopher Lloyd and Lee Arenberg.

- Bullet to the Head (Action, Suspense, R): Directed by Walter Hill and starring Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Sarah Shahi, Jason Momoa and Christian Slater.

- Erased (Action, Suspense, R): Directed by Philipp Stolzl and starring Aaron Eckhart, Olga Kurylenko, Liana Liberato, Alexander Fehling and Neil Napier.

- Evil Dead (Horror, R): Directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.

- The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure (Family, Childrens, G): Directed by Matthew Diamond and starring Toni Braxton, Christopher Lloyd, Cloris Leachman, Jaime Pressly and Cary Elwes.

- Solomon Kane (Action, Adventure, Fantasy, R): Directed by Michael J. Bassett and starring James Purefoy, Pete Postlethwaite, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Jason Flemyng and Mackenzie Crook.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “The Conjuring,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Solomon Kane.”
