Witnesses report seeing unusual UFO in Wilcox County in May 1991

White cattle egret bird.

Each year, when the calendar flips over to the month of May, I can’t help but recall the passing of another year since one of the most unusual UFO reports in Wilcox County history.

According to records maintained by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), this year marks 28 years since multiple witnesses in May 1991 reported seeing an unidentified white object rise out of the woods northwest of Camden and spiral out of sight into the clouds. Reports of the incident say that two witnesses were in a pickup truck, driving into a cattle pasture to help tag and weigh a newborn calf. This pasture was located just off Cobb’s Landing Road, which is off Highway 28, between Camden and Millers Ferry.

The men were facing east-southeast when they saw what they initially thought was a white cattle egret bird fly up from the tree line at the far end of the pasture. They thought it was odd that the bird was alone since these birds usually fly in flocks. It also didn’t appear to be flapping its wings as it flew higher into the sky at about a 45-degree angle.

Still thinking that it was a bird, the witnesses said they expected it to eventually level out and glide back down to the field. However, it flew to an apparent height of around 400 yards before it simply disappeared. A few seconds later, it reappeared higher in the sky and to the left of where it was last seen.

The witnesses watched it for about 10 more seconds before it vanished again only to reappear in about the same length of time, still climbing and headed south. The object was still a “brilliant white” and didn’t appear to diminish in size despite the fact that it was apparently moving away from the witnesses. The object vanished and reappeared three more times.

One witness theorized that the object was spiraling upwards and was visible only when sunlight reflected from its surface, which caused it to seem to disappear and reappear. Eventually, it disappeared for good among the clouds. The report noted that the object left no trail and emitted no sound.

The witnesses also believed that the object appeared to have risen from a nearby field or from among the trees beyond the field. “It rose from that location as if it had been there some time,” the witness said. In all, the sighting lasted a total of about one minute, he said.

In the end, it should be noted that there have been other UFOs spotted in Wilcox County down through the years, but the incident described above is one of the best documented. I’d like to hear from anyone in the reading audience with more information about the May 1991 incident, especially the specific date and time that it occurred. Also, if you’ve seen a UFO anywhere else within Wilcox County, let me know. Chances are, if you saw something unusual, others might have witnessed it too.
