Evergreen’s McIntyre Travel Center Babe Ruth team whipped Monroeville in both games of a double header Saturday at Evergreen Municipal Park. Evergreen won the first game 6-3 and took the second game, 12-0. Evergreen pitcher Jeremy Ealum got the pitching win in the first game, and Jared Dees got the pitching win in the second game.

Members of the 2008 Yankees Little League team included Isaiah General, Ethan Roberts, Drew Hardin, Isaac Stanton, Jacob Hendrix, Allen Stuart, Briana Rudolph, Myeshia Thomas, Quinton North, Hunter Fleming, Chris Young and Isaiah Stanton. Coaches included Wayne Hicks and Thad Ellis.

Members of the 2008 Bats T-Ball team included Henry Jones, Lexus Alverson, Ian Godwin, A’mya Gross, Destiny Walton, Jennifer Barlow, Race Salter, Michael Carbona, Ethan Hawsey, Matthew Wagner, Clay Conway and Frederick Simpson. Coaches included Tammy Stuckey, Marc Godwin, Manager Teresa Hawsey and Team Mother Haley Hawsey.

JUNE 10, 1993

There will be a men’s and women’s softball tournament beginning Sat., June 12, at 9 a.m. at the Evergreen Municipal Park. For more information, contact Earl Evans or Linda McMillian.
Also, there will be a fish fry and softball game at China School Sun., June 13, beginning at 3 p.m. During the afternoon Mixonville will face China and Georgiana will play the Evergreen All-Stars. Everyone is invited to attend.

Conecuh County’s seventh annual Special Olympics was held May 11, 1993 at Lyeffion Junior High School.
Opening remarks were made by Steve Coker, Superintendent of Conecuh County Schools. Welcome and remarks were made by Joey Varner, principal of Lyeffion Junior High School.
The playing of the national anthem and other musical presentations were performed by the Evergreen Jazz Band, Phil Mika, Director.
The coordinator of the Special Olympics is Mrs. Janet Cooper. Mrs. Cooper was also in charge of the Presentation of Medals to the winners.
The Lighting of the Torch was by Melodie Nettles and Patrick Grace, Special Olympians.

JUNE 13, 1968

Tom Somerville, guard on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, will speak twice here Sunday. Sunday afternoon he will meet with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes now being organized by Evergreen High School athletes at the school. Sunday night at 7:30 he will speak from the pulpit of the Evergreen Baptist Church. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend the service with a special invitation to young people, according to Dr. Sam Granade, pastor.

BROWN BREAKS RECORD -  Airman First Class John Brown, local pro at Incirlik’s Golf Shop, shot a record-breaking 66, breaking his old course record of 67. His round was highlighted by two eagle 3s on the par five second and on the par five 11 holes.
Brown, who is stationed in Adana, Turkey, will be going to a tournament in Athens, Greece. A win there would take him to Germany where a win would bring him to England. A third win would bring him to Lackland, AFB, Texas.
Airman Brown is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brown.

JUNE 10, 1948

The Evergreen Greenies had to come from behind to win a thriller in Frisco City Sunday, 7-6. In the tenth, Ottis Johnson crossed the plate with the game-winning tally.
Page, E. Johnson and Tolbert wielded the big sticks in the Greenies nine hit assault with two safeties each.
Wendell Hart hurled for the Greenies giving up nine hits and striking out a like number.

The Evergreen Greenies jumped on two Flomaton pitchers for 16 hits here last Thursday to win their fifth league game of the season, 17-4.
George ‘Lefty’ Gaston had his fast ball working nicely as he whiffed 12 batters in the abbreviated seven inning contest.
Glenn ‘Sleepy’ Hart, Cliff Harper and Georgie Brown collected three hits each to pace the Greenies powerful plate attack.

The Evergreen Men’s Softball League is now in full swing with each team having played two games. Last Thursday night, Southern Coach overpowered the Evergreen Equipment Company by a 21-2 score with Hal Standley on the mound.

The Clarke County Democrat has published a list of the bag of wild turkeys in 18 communities during the past hunting season, totaling 782.
