A friend sent me some information earlier today about an interesting series of books called the “Stanfords Travel Classics,” and more than a few of you will be familiar with some of these titles.
Published by John Beaufoy Publishing Ltd., this series of books “feature some of the finest historical travel writing in the English language, with authors hailing from both sides of the Atlantic.”
In all, the series consists of 15 titles. Some of them you’ve probably heard of. Others are probably more obscure. Books in the series include the following titles:

2. Following the Equator by Mark Twain
3. Sailing Alone Around the World by Capt. Joshua Slocum
4. In Morocco by Edith Wharton
5. Travels With a Donkey in the Cevennes by Robert Louis Stevenson

8. The Golden Chersonese and the Way Thither by Isabella L. Bird

11. The Malay Archipelago by Alfred Russel Wallace
12. Travels in the Interior of Africa by Mungo Park
13. Italian Hours by Henry James
14. A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains by Isabella Bird
15. The Naturalist on the River Amazons by Henry Walter Bates
