This week's movie picks are 'Skyfall' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

- 28 Hotel Rooms (Drama, Not Rated): Directed by Matt Ross and starring Chris Messina and Marin Ireland.

- Christmas in Compton (Comedy, PG-13): Directed by David Raynr and starring Keith David, Eric Roberts, Orlando Brown, Edwin Hodge and Miguel A. Nunez Jr.

- Citadel (Horror, R): Directed by Ciaran Foy and starring James Cosmo, Aneurin Barnard, Wunmi Mosaku and Amy Shiels.

- The Comedy (Drama): Directed by Rick Alverson and starring Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Kate Lyn Sheil, Alexia Rasumussen and Gregg Turkington.

- Coming Up Roses (Drama): Directed by Lisa Albright and starring Bernadette Peters, Rachel Brosnahan, Peter Friedman, Reyna De Courcy and Shannon Esper.

- Dangerous Liaisons (Drama, Romance): Directed by Hur Jin-Ho and starring Cecilia Cheung, Jang Dong-gun and Zhang Ziyi.

- In Another Country (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Hong Sang-soo and Isabelle Huppert.

- In Their Skin (Suspense): Directed by Jeremy Power Regimbal and starring Selma Blair, Joshua Close, James D’Arcy, Rachel Miner and Quinn Lord.

- Lincoln (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Hawkes and Jared Harris.

- Nature Calls (Comedy, R): Directed by Todd Rohal and starring Rob Riggle, Johnny Knoxville, Patton Oswalt, Patrice O’Neal and Maura Tierney.

- A Royal Affair (Drama, Romance, R): Directed by Nikolaj Arcel and starring Mads Mikkelsen, Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, Alicia Vikander and David Dencik.

- Skyfall (Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris.

- Starlet (Drama): Directed by Sean Baker and starring Dree Hemingway, Besedka Johnson, Stella Maeye, James Ransone and Karren Karagulian.

New DVD releases for the week of Nov. 6 include:

- 360 (Drama, Romance, R): Directed by Fernando Meirelles and starring Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Foster and Tereza Srboya.

- The Amazing Spider-Man (Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

- Arthur Christmas (Comedy, Family, PG): Directed by Barry Cook and Sarah Smith and starring the voices of James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton, Hugh Laurie and Bill Nighy.

- Even the Rain (Drama): Directed by Iciar Bollain and starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Luis Tosar and Raul Arevalo.

- Fire with Fire (Crime, Drama, R): Directed by David Barrett and starring Josh Duhamel, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Willis, Vincent D’Onofrio and 50 Cent.

- I Wish (Drama, PG): Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and starring Koki Maeda, Ohshiro Maeda, Ryoga Hayashi, Cara Uchida and Kanna Hashimoto.

- Maximum Conviction (Action, Adventure, R): Directed by Keoni Waxman and starring Steven Seagal, Steve Austin, Michael Pare, Kirby Morrow and Bren Foster.

- The Pact (Horror, R): Directed by Nicholas McCarthy and starring Caity Lotz, Casper Van Dien, Agnes Bruckner, Kathleen Rose Perkins and Haley Hudson.

- Trishna (Drama, R): Directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Freida Pinto, Riz Ahmed, Anurag Kashyap, Roshan Seth and Kalki Koechlin.

- Your Sister’s Sister (Comedy, Drama, R): Directed by Lynn Shelton and starring Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt, Mark Duplass and Mike Birbiglia.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Skyfall,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Amazing Spider-Man.”
