Another high school football season has come and gone in Conecuh County, but it was a good one. Nowadays, the way the regions are set up, if you’re good enough to make the playoffs, you’ve had a decent season. Hillcrest High School and Sparta Academy both made the playoff cut this year and, while they lost in the first round, they represented the county well this year from the first kickoff to the end of the games last Friday. If you see any of our local players out on the street this week, shake their hand and congratulate them on a good season.

The 11th week of our local ESPN College Football Pick ‘Em contest has come and gone, resulting in a reshuffling of the local Top 10 standings.
Hunter Norris remained in first place for the third straight week, and Joey Matheny remained in second place. Jeremy Matheny dropped from second place to third place. Ricky Taylor remained in fourth place, and Mike Daily remained in fifth place.
I went from seventh place to sixth place, and Mark Peacock moved up from eighth place to seventh place. Aaron Albritton dropped from sixth place to eighth place. Steve Stacey remained in ninth place, and Terry Peacock remained in tenth place.
With only four weeks left in the contest, it’s still anybody’s game. There are lots of big games coming up and you can be sure that another reshuffling of the standings will take place between now and the end of the month.

College football action continues this week in the SEC and this weekend’s slate of games will feature four head-to-head conference match-ups. Those games will include Alabama at Mississippi State, Florida at South Carolina, Georgia at Auburn, Kentucky at Vanderbilt. Other games involving SEC teams this week will include Troy at Ole Miss. Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU and Texas A&M do not play this week.
For what it’s worth, here are my picks for this week’s slate of games. I like Alabama over Mississippi State, Auburn over Georgia, South Carolina over Florida, Vanderbilt over Kentucky and Ole Miss over Troy. Last week: 6-1. So far this season: 75-15.

Week 11 of the NFL regular season schedule kicks off tonight (Thursday) with a game between the 6-3 Indianapolis Colts and the 4-5 Tennessee Titans. That game will kick off at 7:25 p.m. at LP Field. Thirteen games will follow on Sunday, and the Monday night game will feature the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers. Dallas and St. Louis don’t play this week.
Tonight, I look for Indianapolis to beat Tennessee. On Sunday, I like Atlanta over Tampa Bay, Buffalo over the New York Jets, Detroit over Pittsburgh, Philadelphia over Washington, San Diego over Miami, Chicago over Baltimore, Cincinnati over Cleveland, Houston over Oakland, Arizona over Jacksonville, Denver over Kansas City, Seattle over Minnesota, New Orleans over San Francisco and the New York Giants over Green Bay. In the Monday night game, I like Carolina over New England. Last week: 7-7. So far this season: 100-47.
