Today in Conecuh County history...

Flag of the 4th Ala. Inf. (Co. E, Conecuh Guards)
On this day - April 24 - in 1861, the newly formed Confederate unit, the Conecuh Guards, mustered at Sparta, and were presented a flag by the ladies of the community at Sparta Depot. Shortly thereafter, they departed for Lynchburg, Va.
