This week's movie picks are 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Hunter'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

The Amazing Spider-Man (Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

China Heavyweight (Documentary, Not Rated): Directed by Yung Chang.

Collaborator (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Martin Donovan and starring Martin Donovan, David Morse, Olivia Williams, Katherie Helmond and Melissa Auf der Maur.

Crazy Eyes (Comedy): Directed by Adam Sherman and starring Lukas Haas, Madeline Zima, Jake Busey, Tania Raymonde and Moran Atias.

The Do-Deca-Pentathlon (Comedy, R): Directed by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass and starring Mark Kelly, Steve Zissis, Jennifer Lafleur, Julie Vorus and Reid Williams.

Katy Perry: Part of Me (Music, Documentary, PG): Directed by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz and starring Katy Perry.

The Magic of Belle Isle (Comedy, Drama, PG): Directed by Rob Reiner and starring Morgan Freeman, Madeline Carroll, Virginia Madsen, Kenan Thompson and Fred Willard.

The Pact (Horror): Directed by Nicholas McCarthy and starring Caity Lotz, Casper Van Dien, Agnes Bruckner, Kathleen Rose Perkins and Haley Hudson.

Savages (Action, Crime, R): Directed by Oliver Stone and starring Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro and Salma Hayek.

New DVD releases for the week of July 3 include:

The American Dream (Drama, Not Rated): Directed by Jamil Walker Smith and starring Malcolm Goodwin, Jamil Walker Smith and Michael Trotter.

Battle Force (Action, War, R): Directed by Scott Martin and starring Scott Martin, Clint Glenn, Alberto Frezza, Brandon Davis and Dennis Lavalle.

The Forger (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Lawrence Roeck and starring Josh Hutcherson, Hayden Panettiere, Alfred Molina, Lauren Bacall and Dina Eastwood.

Freddy Frogface (Comedy, Family, PG): Directed by Peter Dodd.

God Bless America (Comedy, Action, R): Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait and starring Tara Lynne Barr, Joel Murray, Mackenzie Brooke Smith, Rich McDonald and Guerrin Gardner.

Hard Breakers (Comedy, R): Directed by Leah Sturgis and starring Cameron Richardson, Sophie Monk, Mircea Monroe, Chris Kattan and Tom Arnold.

The Hunter (Drama, Action, R): Directed by Daniel Nettheim and starring Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill, Frances O’Connor, Sullivan Stapleton and Dan Wyllie.

Jesus Henry Christ (Comedy, Drama, PG-13): Directed by Dennis Lee and starring Michael Sheen, Toni Collette, Jason Spevack, Jamie Johnson and Aaron Abrams.

Mac & Devin Go to High School (Comedy, R): Directed by Dylan C. Brown and starring Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Mike Epps, Andy Milonakis and Luenell Campbell.

Some Guy Who Kills People (Horror, Comedy, R): Directed by Jack Perez and starring Kevin Corrigan, Barry Bostwick, Karen Black, Leo Fitzpatrick and Ariel Gade.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Hunter.”
