After the dust settled on Saturday, Johnny Davis, who was in sole possession of first place last week, and Jacob Ramer, who’d been in first place earlier this year, were tied for the top spot. Davis and Ramer both picked seven out of 10 games correctly last Saturday, and they are eight points ahead of the next player down in the standings.
My brother Mark Peacock, who was in fourth place last week, finished Saturday in third place, and Hunter Norris retained his spot in fourth place for the second straight week.
I held on to fifth place, and LaBarin Banks remained in sixth place. Aaron Albritton, who was in tenth place last week, moved up to seventh place. Bill Bolton moved up from ninth place to eighth place. Three people were tied for ninth place – Sharon Peacock, David Price and Travis Presley. Justin Jensen, who was in seventh place last week, dropped down into the next spot, twelfth place.
This past Saturday’s round of games marked the halfway point in this year’s contest. With seven more weeks to go, there is still a lot of time for everyone out there to make their way into the Top 10. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and a lot can happen in the college football world in the next seven weeks.

There are more than a few good SEC football games on tap for this week, including several rivalry games. Games set for this Saturday include Alabama at Tennessee, Auburn at Vanderbilt, LSU at Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee State at Mississippi State, South Carolina at Florida and Georgia at Kentucky.
For what it’s worth, here are my picks for this weekend’s slate of games. I like Alabama over Tennessee, Vanderbilt over Auburn, LSU over Texas A&M, Mississippi State over Middle Tennessee State, Florida over South Carolina and Georgia over Kentucky.
Arkansas, Ole Miss and Missouri don’t play this week.
Last week: 2-4. So far this season: 50-14.

Sparta Academy notched its fourth-straight win of the season Friday night with a 24-16 win over Marengo Academy and secured their first four-game winning streak since the 2008 season when they won four-straight games to open the year.
Sparta plays Meadowview Christian tomorrow (Friday) night in Evergreen, and if Sparta gets a win in that game it will give the Warriors their longest winning streak since 2002. That year, Sparta won five straight from Sept. 20 to Oct. 18. Sparta’s longest winning streak ever was a 12-game stretch that began on Aug. 26, 1988 and ended on Nov. 11, 1988.
Tomorrow night’s Sparta-Meadowview game will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams in football, and Sparta is 2-2 all-time against Meadowview. Sparta hasn’t lost to Meadowview since 2005, and I look for Sparta to pick up that fifth-straight win if history holds.
