“Aggies enrapture homecoming mob in Greenville, 6-20” by John Croft – “The Greenville Tigers celebrated homecoming, turned back Evergreen High’s winless Aggies by the score of 20-6 Friday night in Greenville.
“The game, featuring two teams who hadn’t been able to gather in a win or a tie, was picked as ‘game of the week’ by the Alabama Journal because of the probability of a close battle, but Greenville showed who was boss early in the first quarter.
“Evergreen’s score came with five minutes left in the game after a Tiger fumble was pounced on by the Aggies deep in Tiger territory. Glenn Bolton passed to Jack White who pitched to trailing Brent Thornley. Thornley completed the 11-yard scoring play with a short run. Wayne Caylor’s PAT kick fell inches short to make the score 20-6.”

“Aggies play host to Jackets Friday: They have picked up only one win between them, but no matter that, the sports spotlight of Conecuh County rests right smack on the Lyeffion Yellow Jackets and the Evergreen Aggies.
“Yes, it’s Jackets vs. Aggies at Evergreen High School this Friday night. Regardless of the poor records sported by both schools, fans are expected to overflow the seating of Brooks Stadium by kickoff time at eight o’clock.
“Coach Joe Mason’s Jackets carry a record of one win, two losses and a tie and the favorite’s role into the game. Led by Quarterback Homer Chaver and ‘Mr. Everything’ Don Jones, the Jackets have improved week by week.”

“The date of the Evergreen-W.S. Neal game has been moved from Friday night, Oct. 13, to Thursday night, Oct. 12, and that’s tonight.”

“Evergreen will probably start the same boys against Neal that opened against Frisco. They are LE Franklin Williamson, LT Sam Cope, LG Shelton Craig, C Capt. Jeff Moorer, RG Max Pope, RT Cecil Culbreth, RE C.A. Robinson, QB Alt. Capt. Gillis Morgan, LHB Bobby (Pistol Pete) Wells, RHB Donahue Edson, FB Edward (Easy Ed) Hooks.”

“Lyeffion and Repton Play In Brooks Stadium Friday: The Lyeffion High School Yellow Jackets and the Repton High Bulldogs square off here Friday night in the first intra-county game of the season. Kickoff in the game is scheduled for 7:30 in Brooks Stadium at Evergreen High School.
“The two teams are evenly matched and the game should be closely contested. There is a friendly but keen rivalry between the two schools and both would rather win this one game than all the rest on their schedule.
“Neither Repton nor Lyeffion has a powerhouse, but both squads are loaded with players who never believe they are beaten. Each squad has a back who is capable of going all the way anytime he gets his hands on the ball. Booker is Lyeffion’s threat, and Ivey is the danger boy for Repton.
“Admission for the game is 75 cents for adults and 40 cents for students.”
