The members of this year’s varsity baseball team at Sparta Academy are assistant coach Brannon Jordan, Austin Cain, Tanner Bledsoe, Zane Lambert, Ethan Tyree, Lanse Robbins, Tyler Hanks, Hunter Bolton, head coach Justin Chandler, Dakota Coleman, Andrew Darby, Caleb Durphy, Griffin Weaver, Noah Pettis, Jarrett Kirk, J.T. Baker and Stone Riley.

The members of this year’s varsity softball team at Sparta Academy are assistant coach Elaine Covin, Amber Kirksey, Maggie Brock, Abby Dunn, Danielle Viers, Lauryn Bolton, Hayden Lasley, Avie Etheridge, head coach Russ Brown, Lyndsey Cook, Sarah Williams, Leanna Layton, McKenzie Deason, Mary Katelyn Riley, C.K. Bolton, Mallory Simmons, Kortlann Kirksey and Summer Pate.

Sparta Academy scored a season-high 17 runs in a win over South Montgomery County Academy last week that snapped a six-game losing skid for the Warriors.
Sparta blasted SMCA, 17-7, Monday of last week at Baggett Field in Evergreen behind four strong innings from senior pitcher Hunter Bolton. Bolton pitched the first four innings of the game, allowing just four hits, three walks and two earned runs.
Lanse Robbins and Ethan Tyree pitched one inning of relief each. Tyree also led the Warriors at the plate, going three for four with three RBI and two stolen bases. Robbins followed with two hits and three RBI, and Tyler Hanks finished the game with two RBI and two hits, including an inside-the-park home run.

APRIL 11, 1991

Ronald Campbell, manager of Hardee’s, was recently presented a plaque in appreciation of Hardee’s support of the Hillcrest High School basketball team. Making the presentation were Dr. William Robbins, principal of Hillcrest; Campbell, Danny Covin, head basketball coach at Hillcrest; and H.L. Watson, athletic director at Hillcrest.

J.D. Taylor killed this turkey on March 26 “in the woods.” The gobbler weighed 18 pound, had a 10-inch beard and ¾-inch spurs.

Al and Gail Reymundo killed these two big gobblers early Monday morning, April 1. Gail’s turkey weighed 16-1/4 pounds and had an 8-1/2-inch beard. Al’s weighed 17 pounds, had a 9-1/2-inch beard and ¾-inch spurs.

APRIL 14, 1966

Mike Windham proudly shows off the 19-pound gobbler he killed on April 2. Mike is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Windham and is one of the more youthful hunters to enjoy success this year.
