Mary Bankhead Owen |
From the April 26, 1934 edition of The Evergreen Courant:
Owen’s New History Of Alabama Off The Press: A new
four-volume history of Alabama is now off the press. A fifth volume will be
added to the set in the near future.
The history was written by Mrs. Mary Bankhead Owen, director
of the Archives and History Department and for years called the “Grand Lady of
Alabama.”
This is the first complete history of Alabama that has been
written since her husband, the late Dr. Thomas M. Owen, published a similar work
in 1821.
The fourth and fifth volumes of the set deal with
biographies of Alabamians and were prepared by the editorial staff of the
publishers.
