It’s the second week of the month, so this week I’m giving you an update on UFO reports in Alabama from the past month, courtesy of the Mutual UFO Network.
A search for UFO reports in Alabama between May 1 and May 31 on MUFON’s website, www.mufon.com, resulted in four reports from within our state during that time.
The first reported incidents occurred on May 22 and May 23. The witness was looking north about 9:30 p.m. on May 22 when he saw a large, orange ball appear just above the trees. The ball hovered there before it moved to the right and split into two balls. The two balls hovered there and circled each other before a third orange ball appeared in the same spot where the first ball originated. A few seconds later, the first two balls merged and then all three disappeared.
The following night, the witness saw one orange ball split into two balls before they merged back together and disappeared. The witness saw this happen two more times between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
“When it would appear and disappear, it would resemble a light being turned on, but slowly,” the witness said. “It would grow and get brighter over one to two seconds.”
The witness doesn’t say where this happened other than to say that it was somewhere in Alabama.
The second incident occurred on May 25 in an unspecified location in Alabama. The witness in that case was looking for shooting stars when he saw what he described as a “fast moving satellite” at 9:35 p.m. The object was traveling from south to north, he said.
Two days later, the witness reported seeing the “same satellite tonight” at 9:38 p.m., and it was still traveling south to north.
The third incident occurred on the night of May 28 (Memorial Day) and was seen by two individuals sitting on a dock at Logan Martin Lake near Vincent. One witness said that “it was a very clear night, and we saw several jets flying over as you normally do on any night.”
The witnesses eventually saw a bright, square-shaped light moving about as fast as a typical jet. The witnesses thought it was strange that this object didn’t have any flashing lights like most jets.
“All of a sudden, the light seemed to disappear for a second from its southern flight plan,” the witness said. “Then it sped off in an easterly direction at an oblique angle, upward at an incredible speed.”
The white light changed to a reddish-orange color and disappeared in about two seconds.
“I have seen comets, meteors, satellites, even Skylab, but I have never seen anything that moved like this,” the witness said.
The final incident occurred on May 29 and was seen by a husband and wife couple somewhere in Alabama.
The couple was sitting outside, watching the sky, when a bright, white light appeared directly overhead. It fell straight downward before it stopped abruptly, the wife said. It then made a 90-degree turn north and traveled parallel to the ground before eventually flying at a “moderate speed” toward the horizon and out of sight.
“We did not think it resembled anything we’d ever seen,” the wife said. “It behaved as though it was controlled. We couldn’t determine what it could be. It was cool to see even though it wasn’t especially spectacular in shape or color.”
Before closing out this week, I just want to put it out there again that I would be very interested to hear from any readers of The Courant who have witnessed a UFO in Conecuh County. I think a lot of other people would be interested in hearing your story too, and I’d be willing to accept your report on an anonymous basis if you’d be more comfortable with that arrangement.
