It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.
I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.
Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:
- Beautiful Creatures (Drama, Suspense, PG-13): Directed by Richard LaGravenese and starring Aledn Ehrenreich, Alice Englert, Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson and Viola Davis.
- Escape From Planet Earth (Comedy, Family): Directed by Callan Brunker and starring the voices of Brendan Fraser, Rob Corddry, Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker and William Shatner.
- A Good Day to Die Hard (Action): Directed by John Moore and starring Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Yuliya Snigir and Cole Hauser.
- Like Someone in Love (Drama): Directed by Abbas Kiarostami and starring Rin Takanashi, Tadashi Okuno, Ryo Kase, Denden and Mihoko Suzuki.
- No (Drama, R): Directed by Pablo Larrain and starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Alfredo Castro, Nestor Cantillana, Antonia Zegers and Luis Gnecco.
- The Power of Few (Action, Crime, R): Directed by Leone Marucci and starring Christopher Walken, Christian Slater, Q’orianka Kilcher, Anthony Anderson and Jesse Bradford.
- Safe Haven (Drama, Romance, PG-13): Directed by Lasse Hallstrom and starring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, Cobe Smulders, David Lyons and Noah Lomax.
- Saving Lincoln (Drama): Directed by Salvador Litvak and starring Tom Amandes, Lea Coco, Penelope Ann Miller, Creed Bratton and Bruce Davison.
New DVD releases this week include:
- Aladdin and the Death Lamp (Adventure, Fantasy, PG-13): Directed by Mario Azzopardi and starring Darren Shahlavi, Kandyse McClure, Eugene Clark, Nick Alachiotis and Mif.
- Bully (Documentary, PG-13): Directed by Lee Hirsch.
- The Kid with a Bike (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Luc Dardenne and Jean-Pierre Dardenne and starring Thomas Doret, Cecile De France, Jeremie Renier and Fabrizio Rongione.
- Kill for Me (Drama, Suspense, R): Directed by Michael Greenspan and starring Katie Cassidy, Tracy Spiridakos, Adam DiMarco, Donal Logue and Ryan Robbins.
- The Man with the Iron Fists (Action, Adventure, R): Directed by RZA and starring RZA, Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Cung Le and Byron Mann.
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Drama, Romance, PG-13): Directed by Stephen Chbosky and starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Paul Rudd and Nina Dobrey.
- Robot & Frank (Comedy, Science Fiction, PG-13): Directed by Jake Schreier and starring Frank Langella, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Susan Sarandon and Peter Sarsgaard.
- The Sessions (Drama, R): Directed by Ben Lewin and starring John Hawkes, Helen Hunt, William H. Macy, Moon Bloodgood and Annika Marks.
- Silent Hill: Revelation (Horror, R): Directed by Michael J. Bassett and starring Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger, Radha Mitchell, Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington.
- Skyfall (Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris.
If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “A Good Day to Die Hard,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Skyfall.”
