It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.
I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.
Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:
- Berberian Sound Studio: Directed by Peter Strickland and starring Toby Jones, Tonia Sotiropoulou, Cosimo Fusco, Susanna Cappellaro and Hilda Peter.
- Between Us (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Dan Mirvish and starring Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George and David Harbour.
- The Bling Ring (Drama, Crime, R): Directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Emma Watson, Leslie Mann, Kirsten Dunst, Katie Chang and Israel Broussard.
- Call Me Kuchu (Documentary): Directed by Katherine Fairfax Wright and Malika Zouhali-Worrall.
- Hatchet III (Horror): Directed by B.J. McDonnell and starring Danielle Harris, Kane Hodder, Zach Galligan, Caroline Williams and Derek Mears.
- In the Fog (Drama): Directed by Sergei Loznitsa and starring Vladimir Svirskiy, Vladislav Abashin, Sergei Kolesov, Nikita Peremotovs and Yuliya Persild.
- Man of Steel (Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.
- This is the End (Comedy, Action, R): Directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and starring Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel and Danny McBride.
- Twenty Feet From Stardom (Documentary, Music, PG-13): Directed by Morgan Neville and starring Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Claudia Lennear, Lisa Fischer and Judith Hill.
- Storm Surfers (Documentary): Directed by Justin McMillan and Christopher Nelius and starring Tom Carroll, Ross Clarke-Jones and the voice of Toni Collette.
New DVD releases this week include:
- Absolute Deception (Action, Suspense, R): Directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Emmanuelle Vaugier, Evert McQueen, Ty Hungerford and Jeff Gannon.
- Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (Action, Comedy, Fantasy, R): Directed by Tommy Wirkola and starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Thomas Mann and Zoe Bell.
- Killing Lincoln (Drama, Documentary, Not Rated): Directed by Adrian Moat and starring Tom Hanks, Billy Campbell, Jesse Johnson, Geraldine Hughes and Kam Dabrowski.
- Knife Fight (Comedy, Drama, R): Directed by Bill Guttentag and starring Rob Lowe, Carrie-Anne Moss, Richard Schiff, Jamie Chung and Eric McCormack.
- Oz: The Great and Powerful (Fantasy, Drama, Family, PG): Directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff.
- Snitch (Action, Suspense, PG-13): Directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Dwayne Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Jon Bernthal, Benjamin Bratt and Barry Pepper.
- Wrong (Drama, Comedy): Directed by Quentin Dupieux and starring William Fichtner, Alexis Dziena, Arden Myrin, Bo Barrett and Jack Plotnick.
If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Man of Steel,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Killing Lincoln.”
