It's Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.
I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.
Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:
- Gibsonburg (Drama, Not Rated): Directed by Jonathon Kimble and Bob Mahaffey and starring Louis Bonfante, Lili Reinhart, Judy Tenuta, Jonnie Wagner and Dusty Shidaker.
- The Internship (Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rose Byrne, Max Minghella and Aasif Mandvi.
- Lost and Found in Armenia (Comedy, Not Rated): Directed by Gor Kirakosian and starring Jamie Kennedy, Dave Sheridan, Angela Sarafyan, Serdar Kalsin and Alex Kalognomos.
- Much Ado About Nothing (Drama, Comedy, Romance, PG-13): Directed by Joss Whedon and starring Clark Gregg, Reed Diamond, Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof and Tom Lenk.
- The Purge (Suspense, Crime, Science Fiction, R): Directed by James DeMonaco and starring Lena Headey, Ethan Hawke, Edwin Hodge, Max Burkholder and Tony Oller.
- Rapture-Palooza (Comedy, Fantasy, R): Directed by Paul Middleditch and starring Anna Kendrick, Craig Robinson, John Francis Daley, Ken Jeong and Thomas Lennon.
- Syrup (Comedy, Drama, R): Directed by Aram Rappaport and starring Shiloh Fernandez, Amber Heard, Brittany Snow, Kellan Lutz and Keith Powell.
- Tigers Eyes (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Lawrence Blume and starring Willa Holland, Amy Jo Johnson, Tatanka Means, Elise Eberle and Cynthia Stevenson.
- Violet & Daisy (Drama, Crime, Not Rated): Directed by Geoffrey Fletcher and starring Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel, James Gandolfini, Danny Trejo and Cody Horn.
- Wish You Were Here (Drama, Mystery, R): Directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith and starring Felicity Price, Joe Edgerton, Teresa Palmer, Antony Starr and Nicholas Cassim.
New DVD releases this week include:
- Escape from Planet Earth (Comedy, Family, Science Fiction, PG): Directed by Callan Brunker and starring the voices of Brendan Fraser, Rob Corddry, Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker and William Shatner.
- A Good Day to Die Hard (Action, R): Directed by John Moore and starring Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Yuliya Snigir and Cole Hauser.
- Identity Thief (Comedy, Adventure, R): Directed by Seth Gordon and starring Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet and Tip Harris.
- It’s a Disaster (Comedy, R): Directed by Todd Berger and starring Julia Stiles, America Ferrera, David Cross, Rachel Boston and Erinn Hayes.
- The Last Ride (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Harry Thomason and starring Henry Thomas, Kaley Cuoco, Ray McKinnon, Stephen Tobolowsky and Jesse James.
- Mental (Comedy, Drama): Directed by P.J. Hogan and starring Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia, Live Schreiber, Kerry Fox and Caroline Goodall.
- Warm Bodies (Horror, Romance, Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich and Dave Franco.
If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “The Purge,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Last Ride.”
