This year’s college football season will wrap up with the
first ever College Football Playoff Championship Game this coming Monday night
in Arlington, Texas. The game, between Oregon and Ohio State, will get underway
at 7:30 p.m. at AT&T Stadium. It’ll be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Both of these teams are really good, but I think Oregon’s
got more firepower than Ohio State can handle. Oregon’s got the better
quarterback in Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariotta, and their defense is just
good enough to hold off Ohio State. It could be a high scoring affair, but I
expect Oregon to get the win.

The Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs will kick off with
a pair of games on Saturday and with two more on Sunday.
The Baltimore Ravens will play the New England Patriots
Saturday at 3:35 p.m. at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. in a game that
will be televised on NBC. New England’s favored to win (and I think they will
win), but I want the Ravens to pull it out.
Later on Saturday, the Carolina Panthers will play the
Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. That game, which will begin
at 7:15 p.m., will be shown on FOX. Look for Seattle to blow out the Panthers
by double digits on their way to the NFC title game.
On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys will play the Green Bay
Packers at 12:05 p.m. at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. That game will be
televised on FOX. Dallas was lucky to get by Detroit last week, and I don’t see
them getting past the Packers on Sunday.
Later on Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts will take on the
Denver Broncos at 3:40 p.m. at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver.
That game will be shown on CBS. I like the Colts, and I hope they win, but I’ll
be surprised if Denver doesn’t carry the day.

Alabama and Auburn’s men’s basketball teams both tipped off
their SEC schedules earlier this week. Alabama, 10-3 overall, played Texas
A&M Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, and Auburn, 8-5 overall, played Vanderbilt
Tuesday in Nashville.
Both of these teams have played decent non-conference
schedules so far, and both teams have quality wins under their belts. Auburn’s
best non-conference win was probably its 89-88 home win over Xavier on Dec. 20.
They also almost beat Texas Tech on the road, falling by two in Lubbock on Dec.
3.
Alabama beat UCLA, 56-50, in Tuscaloosa on Dec. 28 and
Arizona State, 76-71, in Tucson. Alabama also lost a close one against No. 11
Wichita State, falling on the road, 53-52, on Dec. 16.

As hard as it is to believe, tomorrow (Friday) will mark the
three-year anniversary of No. 2 ranked Alabama’s win over No. 1-ranked LSU in
the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans. Many of you will remember
that Alabama shutout LSU, 21-0, in a rematch between the two teams after LSU
beat Alabama in the regular season in Tuscaloosa. Alabama’s BCS Championship
Game win over LSU gave Nick Saban his third national title.
