'Capital in the Twenty-First Century' tops best-sellers list this week

Today is Sunday, so that means that it’s time for my weekly breakdown of this week’s Publishers Weekly Best-Sellers Lists. According to those lists, there is one new book at the top of the four major best-sellers lists this week.

"Capital in the Twenty-First Century" by Thomas Piketty replaced "Finding Me" by Michelle Knight as the top book on the hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list.

"Unlucky 13" by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro remained the No. 1 book on the hardcover fiction best-sellers list for the second straight week.

"Inferno" by Dan Brown remained the top book on the mass market paperback best-sellers list for the second week in a row.

"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn remained the top book on the trade paperbacks best-sellers list for the third week in a row.

There were four new books on this week’s hardcover fiction best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. Those books (and their places on the list) included "The Kill Switch" by James Rollins (7), "The Skin Collector" by Jeffery Deaver (8), "Any Other Name" by Craig Johnson (9) and "The Son" by Jo Nesbo (12).

There were seven new books on this week’s hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week. Those books included "Think Like a Freak" by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner (3), "Spartan Up!' by Joe Desena (6), "Where Does It Hurt?" by Jonathan Bush (7), "Stress Test" by Tomothy Geithner (8), "No Place to Hide" by Glenn Greenwald (11), "The Doctor's Diet" by Travis Stork (13) and "The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss" by Jessica Ortner (14).

There was only one new book on this week’s mass market paperbacks best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week - "Love Comes Along" by Nora Roberts, which was No. 15 on the list.

There was only one new book on this week’s trade paperbacks best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week - "Wedding Night" by Sophie Kinsella, which was No. 14 on the list.

As a reminder, I’m posting these lists each Sunday because they, as a whole, represent a great, contemporary recommended reading list.
