Men’s Softball League will meet on May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Courthouse. Men
between the ages of 19 and 99 who want to play are asked to sign their name on

Auto Parts, B.C. Moore and Sons.”
“These Cub Scouts of Den 3,
Evergreen Pack 40, enjoyed the Ringling Bros. Circus in Montgomery last week.
The boys are Robert Bozeman, Michael Nelson, Sonny Bradley, Rusty Brantley,
Gene Owensby and Richard Tate; Danny Arzonico and Tommy Hutcheson; Den Mothers,
Mrs. Bob Bozeman and Mrs. David Owensby and Den Chief Jeb Barron. Not shown is
Artie Wright who was sick and unable to make the trip.”
“NEAL 6, AGGIE 3: The Neal
Eagles got their chance in the top of the fourth inning, and put the game away
with a six-run outburst, as they downed the Aggies, 6-3. The Aggies got off to
a flying start as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Eric
Pugh walked and came home on a triple by Larry Peacock, who scored on a double
by Richard Wilson. Not much happened until Neal wrapped it up in the fourth.
Two Aggie errors and four Eagle hits provided the winning margin. Larry Peacock
hit the first home run of the year for the Aggies to complete the scoring for
the afternoon. Larry Peacock, Richard Wilson and Ronald Halford had hits for
the Aggies.”

“Ward Alexander Jr.,
Evergreen High School ace fullback, has accepted a bid from the Alabama High
School Athletic Association to play in the annual All-Star game at the
University on Aug. 11. The hard running Aggie fullback made first string
All-State the past two seasons in addition to earning four varsity letters at
Evergreen High School. He has accepted a grant-in-aid scholarship to the
University of Alabama and plans to enroll there in the fall. He is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ward C. Alexander of this city.”
“Evergreen and Monroeville
had a grand slam knockout of a baseball game last Thursday. Due to a run in the
last inning Monroeville came out on top with a verdict of 6 to 5. Jimmy Frazier
had a good day at the mound. He struck out eight of the Monroeville nine,
walked two, and pitched six hits that were good for six runs. Edson and Alexander
both had good days at the plate. Each rapped a homer, and Edson got another hit
which was good for a single. Alexander knocked into the outfield and ran two
bases before he was forced to halt. Jimmy Frazier and J.B. McClain both got
base hits while Robert King stepped up to the plate and slammed a double.”
“Paul and Old Texas Win In
Amateur League Play: Last Sunday, Paul outscored Lyeffion in a high-scoring
contest, 19-14. Homer Riley and J.W. Windham pitched for Paul and Douglas Jones
and Donald Evers pitched for Lyeffion and Ken Tomlinson doing the catching.
“Lyeffion hitters were led by
Bernard Powell and Chester Morgan with a home run each. McClain and Cobb led
the Paul batters with three hits each.
“Old Texas won over
Mixonville last Sunday in another high-scoring contest, 16-9.
“Old Texas was led at the
plate by Clifton Wright with three for three and Carl Robinson with three for
five. Albert Robinson pitched for seven innings and was relieved by Max Wesley
who received credit for the victory.
“Sirmons led the Mixonville
team with two for three, followed by Harry Pugh with two for four. Lavail
Robinson was the losing pitcher.”

“Schacht To Perform In
Brewton Sunday: Al Schacht, the Clown Prince of Baseball and sometimes referred
to as Baseball’s Goodwill Ambassador will put on his act in Brewton Sunday
afternoon before a ball game between the Brewton Millers and the Tallassee
Indians.
“Schacht has broken over 150
minor league attendance records all over the United States and averages
traveling around 50,000 miles per season.
“He changes his act each
season and is now touring the Southern States with his latest crowd pleasing
performance.
“Proof of his popularity is
his appearance at all World Series and All-Star games.
“Brewton baseball officials
are preparing for a record-breaking attendance at Liles Park Sunday afternoon
for these two attractions. Late comers will probably have trouble finding seats
as the performance starts about 2 p.m. or soon after.”

hours here Friday with his mother. Mr. Ivey, is a member of the Howard College
baseball team and met the team on No. 1 for a southern tour.”
