Several years ago, I had a life-altering experience: I read Clive Cussler’s classic adventure novel, “Inca Gold.” It was my first taste of Cussler, and I’ve been hooked ever since. From that point on, I’ve been trying to read all of his books, and I recently scratched another one of his novels of my list of those I hadn’t read before, 2010’s “Crescent Dawn.”
“Crescent Dawn,” which was co-authored by Dirk Cussler, is the 21st book in Cussler’s best-selling “Dirk Pitt” adventure novel series. First released in November 2010, “Crescent Dawn” features Dirk Pitt and his two adult children, Dirk Pitt Jr. and Summer Pitt as they become involved in a sinister plot to resurrect the Ottoman Empire. Along the way, they encounter underwater wonders off the coasts of Israel and Turkey, investigate an almost century-old explosion aboard a British warship and uncover 2,000-year-old secret documents that contain hidden information about Jesus.
By my count, this is the 13th Cussler book that I’ve read, so I’ve got a long way to go in my quest to read all of his books. Those that I’ve read include:
- The Mediterranean Caper (1973)
- Iceberg (1975)
- Vixen 03 (1978)
- Pacific Vortex (1983)
- Sahara (1992)
- Inca Gold (1994)
- The Sea Hunters: True Adventures With Famous Shipwrecks (1996)
- Flood Tide (1997)
- Golden Buddha (2003)
- White Death (2003)
- Sacred Stone (2004)
- Medusa (2009)
- Crescent Dawn (2010)
Of those 13, I would say that “Inca Gold” was my favorite, followed by “Sahara.”
