Pacific Crest Trail memoir tops nonfiction best-sellers list this week

It’s Sunday, so that means that it’s time for my weekly breakdown of this week’s Publishers Weekly Best-Seller List. According to the list, there are two new books at the top of the four major best-sellers lists this week.

"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn replaced "Friends Forever" by Danielle Steel as the No. 1 book on the hardcover fiction best-sellers list.

"Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" by Cheryl Strayed replaced "The Corruption Chronicles" by Tom Fitton as the top book on the hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list.

"Happy Birthday" by Danielle Steel remained No. 1 book on the mass market paperback best-sellers list for the second week in a row.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” by E.L. James retained its place atop the trade paperbacks best-sellers list for the eighteenth week in a row.

There are three books on this week’s hardcover fiction best-sellers list that weren’t on that list last week. They (along with their place on the list) include "Odd Apocalypse" by Dean R. Koontz (2), "Haven" by Kay Hooper (9) and "The Light Between Oceans" by ML Stedman (14).

There are six books on this week’s hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They include "Vintage Cakes" by Julie Richardson (3), "Double Cross" by Ben Macintyre (5), "The Blood Sugar Solution" by Mark Hyman (8), "I Hate Everyone... Starting With Me" by Joan Rivers (9), "Red Ink" by David Wessel (13) and "American Sniper" by Chris Kyle (14).

There are nine books on this week’s mass market paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They include "Big Sky Mountain" by Linda Lael Miller (2), "Don't Blink" by James Patterson (3), "Catching Fireflies" by Sherryl Woods (4), "All Summer Long" by Susan Mallery (5), "Happy Ever After" by Nora Roberts (6), "Love in a Nutshell" by Janet Evanovich (8), "The Lady Is a Vamp" by Lynsay Sands (11), "The Wedding Party" by Robyn Carr (12) and "Flash and Bones" by Kathy Reichs (15).

There are three new books on this week’s trade paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They include "Forks Over Knives" by Del Sroufe (7), "You're Stronger Than You Think" by Les Parrott (8) and "1493" by Charles C. Mann (12).

As a reminder, I’m posting these lists each Sunday because they, as a whole, represent a great, contemporary recommended reading list.
