“An unusual work of nature has recently been discovered on the place of R.L. Philyaw, farmer living about five miles from Evergreen on the Evergreen-Greenville highway. What appears to have been a landslide has occurred. For a distance of nearly one quarter of a mile along a small branch in pasture lands of Philyaw’s it seems that a portion of a gentle hillside slope has moved toward the branch for a distance of 15 or 20 feet. The break on the hill varies in distance from 75 to 100 yards from the branch. All of the land between this break and the branch has moved. The main break is eight or 10 feet deep and from 10 to 20 feet wide. One the land that moved are trees of all kinds such as may usually be found on woodlands in this vicinity.”
