It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.
I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.
Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:
- 2 Days in New York (Drama, Comedy, R): Directed by Julie Delpy and starring Julie Delpy, Chris Rock, Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau and Alex Nahon.
- The Bourne Legacy (Action, Adventure, PG-13): Directed by Tony Gilroy and starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Joan Allen and Oscar Isaac.
- The Campaign (Comedy): Directed by Jay Roach and starring Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, Katherine LaNasa and Dylan McDermott.
- Freelancers (Crime, Action, R): Directed by Jessy Terrero and starring Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker, Beau Garrett, 50 Cent and Dana Delany.
- Goats (Comedy, Drama, R): Directed by Christopher Neil and starring Graham Phillips, David Duchovny, Vera Farmiga, Ty Burrell and Keri Russell.
- Hope Springs (Comedy, Drama, PG-13): Directed by David Frankel and starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, Steve Carell, Jean Smart and Marin Ireland.
- Nitro Circus: The Movie (Comedy, Reality, PG-13): Directed by Gregg Godfrey and Jeremy Rawle and starring Travis Pastrana.
- Red Hook Summer (Drama): Directed by Spike Lee and starring Clarke Peters, Nate Parker, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Toni Lysaith and Jules Brown.
- $upercapitalist (Suspense, Drama): Directed by Simon Yin and starring Linus Roache, Kenneth Tsang, Derek Ting, Richard Ng and Kathy Yin.
New DVD releases for the week of Aug. 7 include:
- Bel Ami (Drama, R): Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod and starring Robert Pattinson, Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Colm Meaney.
- Blue Like Jazz (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Steve Taylor and starring Marshall Allman, Tania Raymonde, Claire Holt, Jason Marsden and Eric Lange.
- Bomber Boys (Documentary): Starring Ewan McGregor and Colin McGregor.
- Knock Knock 2 (Horror, R): Directed by Chris Sheng and starring Gina Sorell and Jordan Elizabeth.
- The Lorax (Family, Comedy, PG): Directed by Chris Renaud and Kyle Balda and starring the voices of Danny De Vito, Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Betty White and Taylor Swift.
- Loving the Bad Man (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Peter Engert and starring Alexander Alonso, Carol Antoine, Stephen Baldwin, Raul Barrios and Jason Bartley.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “The Bourne Legacy,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Lorax.”
