When I was a kid, one of my favorite TV shows was NBC’s
“Amazing Stories.” The show, which was sort of like a modern day “Twilight
Zone,” featured mostly 30-minute fantasy, horror and science fiction stories.
It premiered in 1985 and went off the air in 1987 after 45 episodes.
As much as I liked this show, I was around nine or 10 years
old when it first started coming on, I couldn’t honestly say that I’d seen
every episode. For that reason, I added “Watch every episode of ‘Amazing
Stories’” to my bucket list a couple of years ago. Thanks to NetFlix, I
recently finished watching all 45 episodes during the past week.
The series was created and spearheaded by Hollywood legend
Steven Spielberg. Other directors working on the series included Michael D.
Moore, Burt Reynolds, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Timothy Hutton, Danny
DeVito and Robert Zemeckis.
A number of great actors also appeared on “Amazing
Stories,” including Paul Bartel, Sid Caesar, Kevin Costner, Dom DeLuise,
Gregory Hines, Harvey Keitel, Matthew Labyorteaux, David Carradine, James
Cromwell, Mark Hamill, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd, Rhea Perlman, Charlie
Sheen, Patrick Swayze, Sam Waterston, Loni Anderson, Bronson Pinchot, Danny
Devito, Seth Green, David Rappaport, Beau Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland, Dick
Cavett, Milton Berle, Tim Robbins, Christina Applegate, Charles Nelson Reilly,
“Weird Al” Yankovic, Forest Whitaker, Gary Coleman, Ed McMahon, Richard
Simmons, Carrie Fisher – the list goes on and on.
It’s hard to pick a favorite episode, but I remembered a
number of them from when I was a kid, including “Alamo Jobe,” “The Mission,”
“Mummy Daddy,” “Thanksgiving,” “The Pumpkin Competition” and “Go to the Head of
the Class.” If I absolutely had to pick a favorite, it would be “Go to the Head
of the Class.” If you have NetFlix and are interested in watch all 45 “Amazing
