James Patterson's 'Private L.A.' takes top spot on best-sellers list this week

Today is Sunday, so that means that it’s time for my weekly breakdown of this week’s Publishers Weekly Best-Sellers Lists. According to those lists, there are two new books at the top of the four major best-sellers lists this week.

"Private L.A." by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan replaced "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd as the No. 1 book on the hardcover fiction best-sellers list.

"Six Years" by Harlan Coben replaced "Until the End of Time" by Danielle Steel as the top book on the mass market paperback best-sellers list.

"Duty" by Robert M. Gates remained the top book on the hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list for the fifth week in a row.

"Second Honeymoon" by James Patterson and Howard Roughan remained the top book on the trade paperbacks best-sellers list for the second week straight.

There were five new books on this week’s hardcover fiction best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. Those books (and their places on the list) included "Private L.A." by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan (1), "Killer" by Jonathan Kellerman (2), "S." by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst (8), "The Counterfeit Agent" by Alex Berenson (11) and "The Martian" by Andy Weir (15).

There were four new books on this week’s hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week. Those books included "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XII" by Piggyback (4), "HRC" by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes (12), "The Sixth Extinction" by Elizabeth Kolbert (13) and "I Am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai (14).

There were two new books on this week’s mass market paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. Those books included "Six Years" by Harlan Coben (1) and "Torture Town" by William W. Johnstone (11).

There were four books on this week’s trade paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They included "The Sanctuary for Lent 2014" by Sue Mink (3), "Cockroaches" by Jo Nesbo (4), "The Traitor's Wife" by Allison Pataki (9) and "Super Hawks" by News Tribune/Olympian (11).
