“Rain is just ‘about right’ Windham says: Weatherman Earl Windham has only this to say this week: ‘Well, we have had a few days of real nice weather. I hope that meets with your approval. 2.41 inches of rain fell on May 7 and .1 of an inch on May 9. You’ll find the daily temperatures below.’
“The country editor is reminded of his late grandfather, G.O. Dickey who practiced law in this county from 1916 until his death in 1951, by Earl’s remarks. ‘Big Daddy’ was the family name for Col. Dickey, who happened to be one of the best ‘gardeners’ in these parts. Well, to keep this story short, just let it be said that the writer remembers, with much pleasure, now, that ‘Big Daddy’ just never could get enough rain to suit him and his garden.
“It would rain for what seemed like ’40 days and 40 nights’ and then fair off for two or three days. Then ‘Big Daddy’ would stare (he never just looked, he always stared) at the sky, shake his head and say, ‘Boy, we surely do need a good shower.’
“You know, ‘Big Daddy’ would love Weatherman Windham.”
