It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.
I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.
Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:
- A Dark Truth (R, Action, Suspense): Directed by Damian Lee and starring Andy Garcia, Forest Whitaker, Eva Longoria, Kevin Durand and Devon Bostick.
- Texas Chainsaw 3D (R, Horror): Directed by John Luessenhop and starring Alexandra Daddario, Bill Moseley, Dan Yeager, Tania Raymonde and Trey Songs.
New DVD releases for the week of Jan. 1 include:
- Cosmopolis (R, Drama, Suspense): Directed by David Cronenberg and starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric and Jay Baruchel.
- Little Birds (R, Drama): Directed by Elgin James and starring Juno Temple, Leslie Mann, Kay Panabaker, Neal McDonough and Kate Bosworth.
- Looper (R, Action, Science Fiction): Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Piper Perabo and Paul Dano.
- The Thompsons (Horror, R): Directed by Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores and starring Corey Knauf, Samuel Child, Joseph McKelheer, Mackenzie Firgens and Ryan Hartwig.
- The Trouble with Bliss (PG-13, Drama, Comedy): Directed by Michael Knowles and starring Michael C. Hall, Brie Larson, Lucy Liu, Peter Fonda and Chris Messina.
- War of the Dead (Not Rated, Horror, Action): Directed by Marko Makilaakso and starring Andrew Tiernan, Mark Wingett, Mikko Leppilampi, Samuel Vauramo and Jouko Ahola.
If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Texas Chainsaw 3D,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Looper.”
In the end, let me know if you get a chance to watch any of the new movies in theatres this week or if you’ve already seen any of the movies that have just been released on DVD. What did you think about them? Which would you recommend? Let us know in the comments section below.
