Who do YOU think will win this year's slate of BSFA Awards?

The British Science Fiction Association released its shortlist of nominees for the 2012 BSFA Awards yesterday (Friday).

For those of you unfamiliar with the BSFA Awards, they are given each year by the British Science Fiction Association to “honor works in the genre of science fiction.” Nominees and winners are selected by a vote of BSFA members and Eastercon members. (Eastercon is the common name of a long-running British sci-fi convention that dates back to 1948.)

This year, BSFA Awards will be given in four categories – Best Novel, Best Short Story, Best Non-Fiction and Best Artwork. The nominees in each category this year include:

Best Novel:

- “Dark Eden” by Chris Beckett
- “Empty Space: a Haunting” by M. John Harrison
- “Intrusion” by Ken Macleod
- “Jack Glass” by Adam Roberts
- “2312” by Kim Stanley-Robinson

Best Short Story:

- “Immersion” by Aliette de Bodard
- “The Flight of the Ravens” by Chris Butler
- “Song of the body Cartographer” by Rochita Loenen-Ruiz
- “Limited Edition” by Tim Maughan
- “Three Moments of an Explosion” by China Mieville
- “Adrift on the Sea of Rains” by Ian Sales

Best Non-Fiction:

- “The Complexity of the Humble Space Suit” by Karen Burnham
- “The Widening Gyre” by Paul Kincaid
- The Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature by Edward James and Farah Mendlesohn
- The Shortlist Project by Maureen Kincaid Speller
- The World SF Blog, Chief Editor Lavie Tidhar

Best Artwork:

- Ben Baldwin for the cover of Dark Currents
- Blacksheep for the cover of Adam Roberts’s Jack Glass
- Dominic Harman for the cover of Eric Brown’s Helix Wars
- Joey Hifi for the cover of Simon Morden’s Thy Kingdom Come
- Si Scott for the cover artwork for Chris Beckett’s Dark Eden

The winners in each of the four award categories will be announced on April 1.

The award categories have changed over the years by one constant since the awards were first handed out in 1970 is the category for Best Novel.
