It’s the second Friday of the month, so this week I’m giving
you an update on UFO reports in Alabama from the previous month, courtesy of
the Mutual UFO Network.
A search for UFO reports in Alabama between Dec. 1 and Dec.
31 on MUFON’s website, www.mufon.com, resulted in eight reports from within our
state during that time.
The first incident occurred on Mon., Dec. 16, at 10:05 p.m.
in Alabaster, which is a suburb of Birmingham in Shelby County. The witness in
this case saw three, red pulsating lights that hovered for a minute or so
before moving slowly northeast. One light was slightly higher than the others,
and the lights moved in unison. Eventually, the lights disappeared after about
four minutes, and the witness tried to follow it in his car, but didn’t have
any luck. Whatever it was, it didn’t make any noise, and the witness wasn’t
sure how far away it was.
The second incident occurred on Tues., Dec. 17, at 6:25 p.m.
near the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, which is about five
miles northeast of downtown Birmingham. The witnesses in this case were a
husband and wife couple who were riding in a car when they saw an object the
“size of an aircraft carrier or bigger” hovering close to the airport and
followed by jets and a “strange,” black helicopter. The helicopter was shining
lights on the object, the wife said. The couple traveled over a hill and
couldn’t see the object any more, but they did hear a sonic boom about five
seconds later.
The third incident occurred on Thurs., Dec. 19, around
sunset at Lake Martin near Alexander City. The witness in this case was sitting
on a dock at the lake, photographing the sunset and watching the sky in hopes
of seeing a falling star. The witness looked to the south, noticed a bright
light and thought it was a plane.
The light moved northeast, and the witness thought that it
might be a helicopter scanning the ground with a heat sensor. At that point,
the witness realized that the object was traveling silently, and he watched as
the light traveled toward a mountain peak across the lake from where he was
sitting.
The light stopped over the mountain and “turned its lights
towards me as it hovered over the peak,” the witness said. The lights changed
from yellow to red and shown in the witness’ eyes for several minutes, he said.
It “felt like I was having my eyes scanned,” the witness said. “I could not
look away if I’d wanted to.”
The light then turned and traveled southwest, but faster
than before. The witness said he saw three white lights as it disappeared from
view behind the nearby mountains.
The fourth incident occurred on Tues., Dec. 24, around 7:15
p.m. in Hueytown, which is in western Jefferson County near Birmingham. The
witness in this case had just arrived home and was “shocked and amazed” when he
saw at least three dozen, reddish-orange balls of light in the sky to the
southwest, just above the treetops. The lights ascended at a 20 to 30-degree
angle, and all of them traveled in the same direction, but they weren’t in a
perfect line, the witness said.
“When each one reached a certain general spot in the sky,
the light would quickly fade and disappear,” the witness said. “The initial
glob was the most impressive point of the 30-minute or so long affair. It slacked
off after roughly five minutes, only one or two appearing every 10 seconds or
so until another busier wave when you could again see at least a dozen in the
sky at once, climbing in altitude until disappearing.”
The lights began to “slack off” after this second wave but a
few continued to appear every 15 to 20 seconds until the lights disappeared
altogether.
It “was one of the most incredibly shocking things I’ve ever
witnessed in my life,” the witness said. “I don’t know what to think.”
The fifth incident also occurred on Dec. 24 around 7:55 p.m.
in Huntsville, which is in Madison County in northern Alabama. The witness in
this case had gone outside to lock his car when he was startled by two, bright
red lights in the clear skies to the north. The lights moved slowly to the
south and were very bright, like the “brake lights on a car,” the witness said.
The lights emitted no noise and left no contrails, he said.
The witness, a private pilot who grew up in a NASA family, continued to watch
the lights as they moved in a straight line with “minor deviations in
altitude.”
The witness then ran inside to get his father, a NASA
retiree who served as a Navy air crewman during World War II and Korea. By the
time they got back outside, two of the lights were gone, but five more had
appeared “in a very loose formation,” the witness said. These lights traveled
the same path, but appeared to get smaller as they got closer to the witnesses.
The color of the lights also changed from red to “dirty
yellow” and took about two minutes to travel over the horizon, the witness
said.
“I saw Sputnik and lots of launches at the Cape, and I am a
private pilot,” the witness said. “These were not airplanes, helicopters,
drones, balloons, etc., and I was sober.”
The sixth incident occurred on Dec. 24 around 8:45 p.m. in
Enterprise, which is in Coffee County in southeastern Alabama. The witness in
this case was taking out the trash behind a health clinic when he noticed three
red lights in a “V” formation. They moved to the witness’ left across the sky
and were followed by two more formations and a single light. The lights moved
slowly, “like a boat on calm water,” and emitted no noise, the witness said.
They traveled over a local baseball field and then moved into a “circle formation.”
Just as the tenth light approached this formation, all of the lights
disappeared.
The seventh incident occurred on Wed., Dec. 25, around 8:40
p.m. in Grand Bay, which is in southern Mobile County. The witness in this case
was traveling in a car and had just turned into his neighborhood when he saw
what looked like a star that was moving. In the next instant, he noticed five
pink-orange lights traveling in a straight line in front of the first star-like
object he saw.
“I rolled down the window to see if I could hear any sound,
and there was no sound,” the witness said. “Each light disappeared as it
reached a large cloud, and they never came back out.”
The eighth incident occurred on Thurs., Dec. 26, around 4:28
a.m. in Huntsville. The witness in this case was traveling to work on a
motorcycle on Carl T. Jones Road when he saw a “huge, glowing, green, perfectly
round ball” of “incredibly bright” light that looked to be the “size of a
football stadium.” The object quickly descended into the trees and when the
witness topped the next hill less than three minutes later, the object was
gone. The entire sighting lasted five to seven seconds, the witness said.
Before closing out this week, I just want to put it out
there again that I would be very interested to hear from anyone who have
witnessed a UFO, especially in Conecuh County. I think a lot of other people
would be interested in hearing your story too, and I’m willing to accept your
report anonymously. You can contact me by e-mail at courantsports@earthlink.net.
